a.Which aircooling systems (HSF) fit the amd64 dtr's?
The only two I know of are the Thermalright xp-90, xp-120, Thermalright slk-u948.

b.Which watercooling systems (or CPU blocks) support (or fit properly) with amd64 dtr's?

c. I'm wondering how much of a OC gain it would make going from say a Thermalright xp-90 to a watercooling system (priced between 100-250)?
Would this particular memory(listed below) limit its gain?
[gain being system stability (core temp i guess?) and cpu clock speed.]

All help, links, flames, ideas, guides, lists, would be awesome [my first post in anandtech's forum btw]

Thanks guys n' gals ( ;

Setup so far:

DFI LANParty UT nf3 250Gb
AMD Mobile Athlon 64 3000+1MB L2 Cache 64-bit Tray Processor (AMN3000BIX5AR)
Kingston 1GB PC 3200 400 MHz 2x512MB Dual Channel Model #KVR400X64C3AK2/1G
EVGA nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT Video Card, 128MB GDDR3, 128-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, AGP 8X, Model "128-A8-N350" -RETAIL

Any suggestions modifying the setup would help too.

Welcome to the forums. I'm sure people will disagree with me, which is their right, but here's my thoughts.

a. I don't know.

b. No clue.

c. Probably none. The A64's are usually pretty cool running and my opinion (based on what I've read) is that they basically leak power like a sieve at some point. Once you hit that point it is not a question of dissipating the heat from the increased voltage so much as it is that you've just reached the limits of the chip.

c.(1) RAM limits A64 very little. Using dividers is standard practice for those of us without a lot of cash and it does have an affect on performance-just not that great. Running an A64 out of sync is nothing like running a P4 with a divider. Once you're using a divider, RAM will not hold you back at all-you can find a divider that allows your ram to run near it's potential while your CPU reaches its own. You can see my rig link to see that memory doesn't limit CPU overclock but it may have an affect on overall system performance afterward by a given amount.

You're stupid (Hey, you said you wanted flames!)

Good luck!

nice! thanks for the post, that really answers the core questions I had on this whole amd64 oc-ing in the value range.

I'd get a nice watercooling system similar to getting a nice case, I'm just wondering if its better to wait. If a better heating dissipation system significantly affects the life of the processor, i think i'd be money well spent if I purchase one now as opposed to later, especially if its as compatible (or comparably compatible) as a case (or something to that effect).

The reason I'm reluctant is that I haven't found a cpu block thats been reported to fit the dtr, and I don't really want to spend the time making my own heat spreader for the dtr (more than that, i probably don't have the know-how atm).

any answers for a. and b.?

thanks again : D
