I just happened to notice "Best Buy" and "Comp USA" have started selling them. I've had a pair for about a year now, but have never been able to "crank" them that high because I'll tick off the neighbors in my apartment complex.
Anyways, I saw them set up at Best Buy a few days ago and wanted to hear them at a higher volume.
To be honest, i was dissapointed too. They sound a lot better at my home. It must have something to do with what they're connected to at Best Buy, and also the atmosphere they're in ( a very open space with a lot of other noises going on around you). They sounded much "crisper" on my computer. At the Best Buy, they seemed "dull"....too much bass, and not as clear.
I've heard my Klipsch compared to other computer speakers and the quality difference is VERY noticeable......no others I've heard come close.
So....I think the set-up at Best Buy has a lot to do what what they sound like, because they sound better on my computer set-up.
