If you could make a 286 run CS, why not give it a SATA drive too?

Dude PLEASE quit talking things you have no clue about.

Optimized drive perforance does matter to some, it could mean shedding anywhere from a fw seconds to a few minutes off loading times in photoshop or game levels.

i would love to see a real benchmark where somebody changed the loading time for a game level by minutes, or photoshop... please post a link to a real bechmark from a reliable source that backs this up

okay photoshop was a bad example to use as thats a RAM instensive application. But for games.. take a really old machine, talking about Pre 1992, mod it to run a game like Counterstrike... the game would probably load extremely slow..

Multitasking might have the same effect, open photoshop, 3ds max 6, eq2, and try to play doom 3. see what happens.

Benchmarks.. hmm thats a hard one simply because i don't someone would try it.

the game would load extremely slow because it would have a 3600rpm or slower (whatever they were in 1992) hdd...this argument doesnt make any sense....

again your multitask would be more ram intensive, now if i were to use ps, 3ds max, etc and play doom3, i would need more cpu and ram than hdd....again your argument is not proving your point

we will stop shooting down your guide when it is correct or you make retorts that make sense. also, you seem to think your guide is perfect and won't listen to constructive criticism because your friend who has a phd that you can't remember what it is in told you so.

it is impressive that your friend has a Phd, but that does not mean he knows his sh!t about computer hardware. i know many mds and phd that are hardcore scientist and don't know sh!t about computers.

You can start by changing your title to "So, you want to reformat?"

Here's my list.

1.Install the OS.
2.Patch Windows.
3.Install hardware drivers.
4.Install apps.
5.Play your games now because trying to get your apps closer to the inside of a HDD disk seems like it will barely help.

i would add a defrag, other than that this works for me.
