Optimized drive perforance does matter to some, it could mean shedding anywhere from a fw seconds to a few minutes off loading times in photoshop or game levels.
i would love to see a real benchmark where somebody changed the loading time for a game level by minutes, or photoshop... please post a link to a real bechmark from a reliable source that backs this up
okay photoshop was a bad example to use as thats a RAM instensive application. But for games.. take a really old machine, talking about Pre 1992, mod it to run a game like Counterstrike... the game would probably load extremely slow..
Multitasking might have the same effect, open photoshop, 3ds max 6, eq2, and try to play doom 3. see what happens.
Benchmarks.. hmm thats a hard one simply because i don't someone would try it.

If you could make a 286 run CS, why not give it a SATA drive too?

You can start by changing your title to "So, you want to reformat?"

Here's my list.
1.Install the OS.
2.Patch Windows.
3.Install hardware drivers.
4.Install apps.
5.Play your games now because trying to get your apps closer to the inside of a HDD disk seems like it will barely help.
