First Time building a PC from scratch. (thermal pad removal question inside)

i want to add arctic silver 5 so, i carefully removed the thermal pad from the heat sink and cleaned the area with rubbing alcohol. what i didnt realize was that i used ethyl based rubbing alcohol instead of isopropyl. i quickly ran out, bought some high grade isopropyl and cleaned the area with it. is that alright?

also, there is still a slight stain where the pad was, do i have to remove the stain completely?

please forgive these simple question, ive never done this before.

Unfortunately, that pad can't be removed completely. Once a thermal pad is on, it is impossible to get it 100% off. There's this thing called Arctic Cleaner, use that and it'll help you get that stuff off.

Acetone may help. Use Qtips. Don't get acetone on plastic! You can always lap the heatsink with 2000 grit sandpaper at home depot.

Use lighter fluid (naphtha) (sole under the Ronsonol or Zippo or generic brands) to take the remainder of the pad off - it will leave little or nothing behind and then rinse with alcohol (either ethanol or isopropyl is fine). Dry with coffee filter if necessary. And you "got 'er done"...
