First time building a computer.

TY 🙂

Anyway, I'm building a computer for the first time and my motherboard and processor consist of a AMD 64 3200+ and a DFI lanparty nforce3. I have a few questions...

1. Does the processor have to have thermal grease applied to it and the heatsink? I didn't realize that you had to open the place where you put the proc in and then lock it down. So I had to scrape all the thermal grease off.

2. When I try to boot up the computer, it'll make a beep noise after about 5 seconds, and the screen will show a consist pattern of blue-ish wavy symbols.

Can anyone offer help? TY for your time.

1. yes, thermal grease is needed!. It is a MUST! Artic Silver is good stuff. Google it.
2. Probably because you had no thermal grease/substance. The beep tells you something. Look in your motherboard book for information on what the beeps mean.

Hope this helps

there will be no way to boot without thermal grease. There are safety things that will prevent your CPU from frying. After a few seconds, these things will kick in and power off your machine. YOU MUST USE THERMAL PASTE.🙂

some mobos beep because their isn't a video connection....in other words is your video card plugged in correctly? is your vga cabled plugged correctly as well?
