First time builder woes

Hey guys I am in desperate need of help.

List of parts: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/immortal_soldier/saved/#view=LxdhP6

Long story short I put everything in, wouldn't boot. Took everything out, still nothing works.

I have been using this guide to trouble shoot.
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems

I tried booting up the system OUTSIDE but it goes on for about 3 seconds then it shuts off. I'm not sure if the motherboard has a built in speaker, but I hear no beeps.

I only have the mother board with the cpu and heat sink, connected to the PSU. Yes I have attached both the 24 pin and 8 pin connectors. Its not the PSU since I used my old one and the same thing happens. I have reseated the CPU and the heat sink twice same thing happens. I took out the battery to the BIOS and tried turning it on with and without the battery, same thing happens. 2-3 seconds on the light from the MOBO turns on and then shuts off.

I had it with a one memory stick in each of the slots and same thing keeps happening. This is my first time actually putting together(wiring) a whole pc and of course it can never go smooth.

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

One thing I did notice the power cable on the case once plugged in doesn't make it boot, I "short it" with another pin to boot it up.

Like I said earlier there is nothing hooked up to the motherboard other than the cpu/heat sink cpu fan and one stick of memory.

The board now manages to stay on for over 10 seconds, then shuts off for 2 or 3 then kicks on again then shuts off.

I hooked up the hdmi see if anything was coming up on my tv since its closer but nothing kicks in

Does the board have any onboard LEDs that will indicate status? It sounds like you either have a motherboard, CPU, or RAM issue, in that order. The fact that you've tried both sticks in all slots (you have, right?) rules out RAM almost entirely. The reseating of the CPU makes me wonder if you may have damaged the motherboard pins at some point in the process. You might want to remove the CPU again and see if you see any pins out of line.

As for the motherboard, there's not much you can test, and yes, motherboards can arrive DOA, but rule out the CPU socket and memory first.

So i went ahead and looked at the pins on the motherboard, they look fine, none look bent of broken. I have tried two sticks of ram every configuration, on stick on every slot. No sticks.

I don't know if there is a speaker built into the motherboard, the manual says nothing about it. There is no LCD display with POST codes, like my old board with the dreaded FF display. There is a red light that turns on when the board fan and PSU start to run, then everything shuts off.

After checking the CPU/ motherboard pins. Again nothing hooked up other than the CPU fan, heatsink and the powersupply with an hdmi to see if anything shows up. Kicks in for 10-15 seconds, then dies for 4 to 5 seconds, if left by itself, it will kick in again then shut off. Vicious cycle.

Make sure that the "CLR CMOS" jumper isn't in the "CLR" position. (Should be in "Normal", or open if it's a two-pin jumper.)

I would check the manual to see what each of the red LED lights signifies. The fact that they turn on and then off could mean that something is not being detected. Usually there's one for the CPU, one for RAM, and perhaps one for a video card.

A couple of observations from the photos:
(1) you're photographing the decorative LED lighting associated with the sound board. That's not relevant to this issue except to show that you do indeed have power. Look for small LED lights near the CPU and memory slots.

(2) for the record, you mounted the fan on the wrong side of your Hyper 212. It should be blowing through the heatsink out the back of your system.

cpu fan 3 pin or 4 pin connector

had one system that did not boot as water blocks do not have a cpu fan. lol had to plug a system fan in so it would boot to the bios to disable that default setting. Google saved me again.

does that cpu fan spin up when the system cycles

Yeah, I just wanted to show that it indeed lights up but there are no other lights anywhere on the board. The cpu fan is installed in the right place. The fan does spin, but nothing cycles.

When it "boots" the fan picks up then it dies down and is quiet but it is spinning. There doesn't seem to be any sort of speaker on it and the case does not have on either. There are no speakers built onto the board or the case.

Thanks for letting me know the fan was backwards. I just found it easier to have it behind to add the sticks of ram.

Same thing happens in the case. I was able to hook up a small speaker I had laying around. Looked up a AMI BIOS beep codes, but I am not sure what is considered a long and a short beep. Seems like long beeps I can get up to 4ish(4,5,6) before it shuts off on me.

Sounds like you may have damaged something during handling. Are you able to test with another power supply?

Yeah I am not 100 percent sure the other power supply works. But same thing was happening. I wasn't able to hear sound at the time, but the time between it powering on and off was the same.

Why would you think the other power supply wasn't working?

And did you buy all of the parts new, at least the ones you're dealing with right now (CPU, MB, PSU, RAM)? Your parts list seems to have some old gear on it.

Got to admit, it seems an RMA might be in order on that board.

The RAM, CPU, the motherboard, the heat sink and the power supply are brand new. The PSU came with a "testing" tool, which is like doing the pin test, the old one doesn't turn on with that.
When I hook it up to the motherboard the same thing happens though. Turns on for about 15 seconds, then shuts off.
