First Time Builder...Start-Up Issues..

Hey Fellaz,

I posted this earlier, but wanted to give you more info...

Just built my first computer... specs:

AMD Athlon 3500+ Socket 939 130nm
MSI K8N Neo2 Mobo
1GB Crucial PC3200 Ram
160 Seagate SATA HD
XFX 6600 GT AGP Video Card
Hitachi 17 LCD Monitor (DVI Connection)

So I put the whole system together and when I fire it up everything seems to be fine other then the fact that nothing is coming up on my monitor ( as in its not receiving a signal or something...)

The monitor is one I have had for a year and use with my old system. Other then that all the other parts are new. The PS fires up, CPU and everything seems to be fine. In fact I tried putting in my Win XP CD to see if that would change anything but it didn't...

Any suggestions on what might be the issue??

Do you hear any beeps when you start up your machine? Depending on what you hear, you can go to the trouble shooting section of your mobo manual and see if you can diagnose what piece of hardware is malfunctioning, assuming it isn't your mobo.

I've had a problem similar to yours with one of my machines after transport. The heatsink on my videocard is soo heavy that the card shifted just a bit in my agp slot during travel which caused the exact same problem that you are describing, so you may want to take out and reinsert the graphics card and see if that helps.

If either one of those two things don't help you try swapping in old parts and see what jumpstarts your system. Start with the graphics card.

Hey, I know this may seem really obvious so I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but some monitors require you to select the input. For instance, when I first got my dell 2000 FP, I had a blank screen until it dawned on me that needed to switch imput on the monitor to DVI. On my monitor that is just a small button in the front.

OK - no beeps - if we assume that the system isn't POSTing [that is as long as your case speaker is plugged in!!! please check]:

Try disconnecting/unplugging EVERYTHING from the mobo except:
cpu/ram/psu/vga
If still same prob, disconnect vga,
if still same prob, disconnect RAM.

What we need are some beeps, just for starters.

Might also be worth taking out the CMOS battery after you have completely unplugged the machine and set the CLRCMOS jumper to clear for 20 minutes.
Can but try - sometimes it works!!
