First, the hyperdrive engine and now this?

1) Anand tech community lets throw our resources together and build one together then we will be a real contender as a world power.

2) Hire Chuck Norris then we will be the only super power!

<< That?s the outlook of J. Douglas Beason, author of the recently published book "The E-Bomb: How America?s New Directed Energy Weapons Will Change the Way Wars Will Be Fought in the Future." >>

His book title alone needs cliff notes. 😛

This makes sense, and hopefully it'll save us some money. I mean, you have laser-guided weapons, why not just take the guided part out and let the laser do all the work?

The main problem I see with directed energy weapons actually comes from Star Trek: How many times have you seen the damned phasers just not work? Something drains the power cells, or the Borg adapt, or the target has multiphasic shielding or whatever. It's much harder to prevent an AK47 from working, because that's just straight up kinetic energy.

Or put the guided part before the laser part. 😱
