First The Evangelicals and Now the Military?

President Donald Trump received a loud ovation when he participated in the coin toss ahead of Saturday’s Army-Navy football rivalry game in Philadelphia. But troops’ actual feelings about the commander in chief appear much more ambivalent in the latest Military Times survey.
Half of active-duty military personnel contacted in the poll held an unfavorable view of President Trump, showing a continued decline in his approval rating since he was elected in 2016.
Trump’s 42 percent approval in the latest poll, conducted from Oct. 23 to Dec. 2, sets his lowest mark in the survey since being elected president. Some 50 percent of troops said they had an unfavorable view of him. By comparison, just a few weeks after his electoral victory in November 2016, 46 percent of troops

surveyed had a positive view of the businessman-turned-politician, and 37 percent had a negative opinion...

That’s a pretty large swing in opinion. Especially the Very Unfavorable to Very Favorable. My guess is the pullout of Syria and putting a hand into Military Justice affairs is affecting how the troops view the administration.

He’s still more popular than Obama was with the military but apparently of all the current candidates the troops donated more than three times as much money to Bernie than anyone else, Trump included.

That puts military approval of Trump right at about the national average, which is quite surprising given how right leaning the military has traditionally been.

I’m picturing a.... historic election.... in 2020 for trump

One can only hope. Yet I keep hearing that Trump is losing support from one group or another: the military, evangelicals, independents. But his overall approval stays low 40's like always.

In my mind, next year's election is a coin toss at best until we have a nominee and some real polling.

Woah Nelly. I loved Trump but then as the festering boil of hatred that is my life became more and more expressed, and I say what hatred really does when it manifests, well, let me just tell you, I am having second thoughts. I mean, I had a lot of puss built up inside of me but as it came oozing out all I could see was what will I do after I've destroyed everything. I'm thinking maybe I should just cool it a bit. I was thinking more about jacking up myself over thoughts of ending the other and not so much about how that was maybe gonna fucking myself. I mean, who knew?

Wouldn't that be nice. Doesn't seem to line up with observable reality so far. It seems more like rock bottom has to be hit before all but a select few are willing to make that sort of introspection. Here's to hoping you are right and I am wrong.

The support from the military has always been exaggerated. Few in active service would say anything negative against their ultimate superior in the chain of command, but when it comes to not being on the spot we get this. The fear of the military creating a Trump lead dictatorship has always been a fantasy and a rather ridiculous one.

For the same reason they will help SwiftBoat one. Tribal politics and the fine art of cherry picking.

Kerry wasn't a draft dodger. He was a combat veteran. He became a war protester after discharge. It was a fairly common thing at the time. They even had an organization, VVAW.

Trump? He dishonored our military when he sold out the Kurds & pardoned war criminals. They all know it.

I should have specified I was speaking to being a veteran, not a draft dodger, my bad. Replace "one" with "veteran."

Regardless of Kerry's post war views, he still served and got shot at. Risked his life to save another American. Other vets pretended that didn't happen or outright lied about Kerry's record over partisan politics and anger towards his anti-war support. The kicker is they were supporting Dubya, a posterchild of nepotism who used family connections to avoid serving in combat and still went AWOL.

Totally agree about the Kurds. One of the more severe stains this POS has left on our national dignity, one that will likely haunt us for awhile via paranoid allies.

If Obama (or any other President for that matter) pulled the betrayal on the military that Trump's abdication in Syria was, their popularity among the military would be in the single digits. Trump still has big sections of the military bamboozled.

It will happen only one person at a time and at a rate comensurate with the degree and rate of decline, I think.
