<< I downloaded the level 3 ISO on 56K a few weeks ago (around 116 MB) but have'nt installed it yet. I'm not quite brave enough.

Be sure and check the MD5 hash to make sure the ISO is good. This should make the install go a little smoother without having to download as much at install time.;)

Beware, though, I am pretty sure that "staeg 3" is pre-built (ie, its already been compiled for a 686+, I think) so you won't get the benefit of compiling everything from scratch. It should still be better than using 386 built rpms.

In any case, I think you can get the CDs from cheapbytes now (for stage 1, 2, or 3). If you have a slow connection, you are best off getting the stage 2 isos (I think these have the source for a fuild build, but nothing is pre-compiled).

Are we sure about that?

Good point. I was wondering about the pros and cons concernign the pre-compiled binaries. It looks like the stage two will be my best bet.

Thanks.

I had to guess on the /etc/make.conf file I just chose a default from the list, where can I find some info on make.conf parameters?

thanks!
