First speeding ticket...

Mylast ticket for goin 20 mph over the speed limit was around $167 plus the cost of traffic school so the point wouldt go on my record. Total was about $197.

Tickets suck... so I was going 55 in a 35 zone. This is in California in a residental zone

Fine = $87
Court Fees: $33
Traffic School: $35

Overall, $160 wasted. $35 dollars to a 7 hour seminar on how to read road signs, stop at red lights, and watching TLC's Trama: Life in the ER.


At least I didn't get any points at all.

I just did 90 in a 45 earlier today... but i know the area and it's a freaken drag strip... straight away the whole way... even grandma does 75 on it 🙂

Been there, done that. Got a 72 in a 55 when I was on my parents' policy.

My advice:

1) Don't skip court. Go talk to the judge.

2) Traffic school, traffic school, traffic school.

3) Get your own insurance policy. I can't tell you how much of a load off it is to have my own policy now. Granted, it's expensive (one at fault accident, one ticket), but I don't have my parents bitching at me about my driving. Plus, if you get your own policy, your points will go with you - In other words your parents won't be affected. The next time their insurance comes up for renewal, have them drop you. Then get your own policy.

4) Slow down. I drive MUCH slower now than I used to. I can't believe some of the stuff I had the balls to do before, but now I start getting very nervous if I hit 65. I used to drop into the left lane &amp; do 75-80 up &amp; down HW26 here in Oregon. Driving home late night (like 2 AM) I'd do 90 all the way home. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

If you live in Cali, it's not that hard to get off the ticket. I got off two of them in one month.

Your own policy will avoid your parent's having their policy cancelled if you get more tickets / are in accidents..... believe me parents really go ballistic if that think that is going to happen!!!!!

It is more expensive though :-(.

How come some people have to pay the ticket even tho they are takin defensive driving?

I just got my ticket and I didn't have to pay it. Instead, all i have to pay for is the court fees and the def. driving (of course it's still some $$$, but less).

Why would you pay for your ticket fine if you take def. driving? Anyone?
