its on their front page lol. the link they cite is just some spec sheet for rigs from several companies (servers of course), and what looks like a "numeric value" given to how much power they draw. im not quite sure what it represents though, didnt study it very long when i noticed it wasnt an actual benchmark.

Specpower has always had an advantage towards Intel. When you get to the real world performance, which Anandtech will do it is always different. The results are not that bad compared to previous AMD Specpower benchmarks. You can always compare AMD with AMD and Intel with Intel to get a good perspective. Anyways I think the 2.8Ghz Shanghai will be equal to the Q9550 in terms of performance.

Are you just guessing, or do you have data to back that up?

Edit: Isnt your sig a mod call-out?

Why would it be a mod call out?

It is more of an average guess as I was looking at the Opteron 2216 and barcelona spec numbers, server performance and compared it with these numbers and what other technical folks believe the gains will be.

*EDIT*

It appears that yet again Intel is tops if the bandwidth is fully saturated. Looks like AMD is decent on the short burst transactions.

I'm waiting on real Deneb or Shanghai reviews before i make my final decision to upgrade to a Quad-core Intel or AMD processor. I'm really excited about Deneb, but will only buy it after reading some real reviews.

I have faith in these new AMD quad core cpus. Even if they have a minor speed advantage clock to clock over the current Phenoms, they can bee a good deal, if they overclock well. But we'll just have to wait and see...

AMD explains Shanghaied benchmarketing

AMD CONFIRMED the benchmarks are Shangahi's but complained about our analysis of the numbers.

Here's it's statement:

The goal of these submissions was to enable comparisons of comparably configured servers , aka apples to apples in what you see in a mainstream, typical configuration.

· Each server uses 8 DIMMs of 2GB each. This is a typical server configuration which uses 2GB per core. There are plenty of users out there who put 8 DIMMs in a server probably would be interested in the score. In fact, it might be worth your time to see how many people use 8 DIMM servers vs. the San Clemente servers that the top Intel scores are based on. Or at least a good sidebar discussion to have.

The Intel score uses Low-Power FB-DIMM ("Memory Details: DDR2-667 CL5 LP FB-DIMM;") If we were trying to create a "worst case scenario" as you call out below, we would have used standard power FB-DIMM memory in the Intel server.
· Each server uses the same Ablecom PWS-702A-1R power supply
· Each server uses the same 500GB WD5000ABPS SATA II disk drive
· Each server uses the same Intel Pro/1000 PT Dual Port Server Adapter NIC
· Each server uses "Dynamic Power Profile Enabled"

Again, if we were trying to show worst case scenario we would have turned off Power Management on the Intel server
· Each server uses the same JVM version
· Each server uses the same JVM command-line options

It has nothing to do with the CPU section. He was pointing out since you are a Nvidia focus member and you are not a moderator of the video forum it is ok.

Dude, relax. I was trying to be a little humorous. I actually appreciate the effort and the attention you give me.

OT: It was mentioned before that I should be able to use a Deneb CPU in my AM2+ 780a mobo, but is this not the case with Shanghai?. I'd like to know the differences between the two anyway. Gotz ta do a little more reading.
