well, i haven't run in about a year. for the past year i've been lifting and trying to gain weight. still haven't met my goal, but i'm workin on it.

last time i ran, i was 23lbs lighter.

it was good to get out there and run again. ran about 6 miles in a little over 44 minutes. about 7:20/mile pace. not bad considering i'm in piss poor shape.

:) shouldn't take me that long to get back up to 10-12mile runs at sub 7minute pace again.

O how I wish I ran when I was younger. It would make it that much easier.

Not that I'm not young now... but lazyism has taken over.

QFT, back in highschool, the average mile time was around 8-9 minutes and most people were exhausted after 1 mile.

lol, i didn't become the best runner in Western Maine just by sitting on my ass :p my high school was known for producing the best in the nation, though, despite being such a small school

I have a love/hate relationship with running :p it's nice to not run seriously anymore and just for fun. I've certainly missed it. I certainly don't miss the hard workouts, though

lol, i see from your sig you're a runner, too. so even out of shape you should be able to do the same thing. we really our different (read: freaks/gluttons for pain) :p

What are your PRs?

back in HS:

5k: 15:58 (I'll never do that again, that was my time in Western Maine's, which placed me first, i only ran a 16:32 in States).
800m: 2:02 (I was always lead off in the 4x800, my favorite event)

those were my two best. 5k, long distance, and the 800, commonly considered the distance runners sprint. I did the 4x400 when they needed me, i consistently got called on to anchor the 4x200 becuase our sprinters sucked. I did the mile, but that wasn't really my specialty. around 4:45 there.

Nice times! I'm more of a long long distance guy (so far, the half-marathon is my favorite race... at least until I run Steamtown marathon next year!) so I don't have a lot of speed but I can keep a 6-minute pace forever. :) Man, sub-16. That is awesome... You must have been euphoric after that race!

top times in nation for high school on fast courses are around 14:00 flat. Chad Hall, brother of Ryan Hall (20k american road race record holder) ran that early in the season at Woodbridge. Evan Jager, of Illinois, just set a new course record of 14:07 at IL states. (these are for 3 miles). junior 5k record holder is Galen Rupp, with a time of, i sh!t you not, 13:37.

but freakishly fast people aside, for those of you who aren't into cross country racing, sub 16 is a killer time for anywhere in the nation, will get you a top placing in fast leagues, and win most.

6 miles? Good god. If I tried to run 6 miles, I'd probably collapse after the 2nd mile.

I did a 5K run a couple weekends ago. I ran for 1 mile, walked some more, then gave up.

Good job though

The 14:07 was for a 3-mile and Galen Rupp is in college now I think but still holds the record.

Biggest problem I have with running when out of shape has nothing to do with my legs, the issue for me is usually the lungs or I end up getting cramps cause I didn't drink water before running, it sucks.

Ya thats a problem for me as well, Ive always enjoyed running but my asthma is what keeps me from doing my best. My lungs always tire out before my legs do.

I beat you in the 800 ;) 2:01 for me. Also in a 4x800 relay, and i was the 3rd slowest(or fastest, however you wanna look at it).

http://footlockercc.com/2003/northeast.htm

Ben True. an absolute fvcking beast. there were good runners, there were great runners, and then there was him. none of us even compared.

now he's dominating XC at dartmouth: Text

an absolute freak of nature. some of his PRs here: Text
