Wow the 5770 is on par with the 4870 even when the 5770 has DX 11. Looks like the 5770 will be no match for the 4890 even though it only has DX10.1

that's the bad news for me coz I thought that it would match the 4890 or just a notch lower than the 4890... sigh...

Everyone told me to wait and see how the 5770 and from the two reviews it seems nothing like the 4890. I will wait a few more days, otherwise I will just get this 4890 for $179.99 after rebate.

dude it is just a notch lower than a 4890 especially at just 1440x900 which is where you are at. its fast enough to tear through most games maxed at 1680 and not too shabby at 1920 for the most part either. you worrying about at just 1440x900 is crazy.

thats 20 bucks more when and if you get the rebate. the 5770 is pretty close to the 4890 at just 1440x900 and consumes way less power. it also has DX11 which will matter in a couple months. either go 5770 and just accept it as a good value or go 5850 and know that you are wasting a lot of it a just 1440x900. I know its a rough decision but I would probably go 5770 since 100 bucks more for the 5850 is a huge price jump. if you were at 1680 with your current rig I would say 5850 all the way.

Well, it's better in most ways than a 4870. If that review was half right, it's still not too far behind it. And it could possibly be o/c'd a little. Nice little card that sips power.

GTX 260 is still a decent card. I would only upgrade to 5870 from that one. Even 5850 doesn't seem enough of a boost imo.

from my understanding he doesnt have the gtx260 anymore. he is only at 1440x900 which the 5770 tears though.

Ya I know. 965mhz factory clocked $190 4890 will surely be faster.

Not impressed with the performance considering i got my 4890 for around the same price and it outperforms it by a decent margin. The 128-bit bus just isn't enough.

I dont think its that disappointing when you consider the whole package. really if the card was priced about 10-20 bucks cheaper and there was a 5830 to fill the gap between the 5770 and 5850 then it would be about perfect.

as it is now though the 5770 will certainly drop in price once the 4870 and 4890 card are cleared out.

I guess AMD/ATI is hopping to grab some money on these cards and then leave space for price drops when nvidia responds with something.

Cmon nvidia launch something decent already! We got spoiled with last gen price/performance.

What am I not understanding here. They recommend this card for people who want a DX11 part instead of a DX10 part. Fine, but if the performance is so low compared to older DX10 parts in older DX10 games how is someone supposed to believe it will run DX11 games with any type of performance at 1920x1200? Shouldn't DX11 titles be MORE intensive and thus run even slower?

DX11 should run BETTER not worse.

In the techpowerup review HD5770 soundly beats HD4870 in Crysis.

In the Guru3d review the HD5770 does just as well as the HD4870 in Crysis.

But in the Anandtech review, HD4850 beats HD5770 in the same game.

That's what they said about DX10 as well and it ran slower in almost every situation than DX9 did.

TechPowerUp looks to be using a 512MB 4870; Crysis uses enough RAM that it's going to make a difference.

As for Guru3D vs. AT, I'd guess it's going to come down to differences in what they're using to benchmark. Plus AT uses Enthusiast shaders and 4x AA.

Will have to see Canadian prices for the 5770, but think the 5850 is more attractive at this time. Especially with the dirt 2 coupon. Still at the right price the 5770 is a nice package.

because it wasnt properly implemented in most cases. the few games with DX 10.1 have always added more performance so that should be an indication that DX11 will hopefully be done right.

Well if DX11 delivers and the devs adopt it, future games should rely less on bandwidth and more on the engine, so maybe then these 5770 (which seem to OC quite good) and the 5750 will perform better.

Another reason for this higher price might be AMD/ATI wanting to get rid of the 4xxx series and then drop the price on the 57xx.
