I went to the grocery store to get things for this week, and I was really excited becaues I was going to cook a roast lamb for the first time. I got about halfway home and I realized I forgot the damn dog food. So, I turned around and starting driving back to the grocery store. Let me give a little background information -- there's a main road from right before my house to all the main commercial areas. It is a two lane road, and the speed limit varies from between 35-45. Most people drive about 50, and I've passed Sheriff's Officers (I live in an unincorporated are) numerous times doing between 50-60. In fact, traffic on that road moves very smoothly, and I've rarely seen someone pulled over. There's never anyone running radar.

Well, I was in a big hurry so I was doing about 60. He passed me, and as I said before, this was nothing new. Normally they don't even flash their brake lights. I got stopped at an insurance checkpoint about two months ago and the Deputy told me flatout that he knows my car, and that he always sees me speeding. He was laughing while he said it and gave me my license.

Well, this Deputy pulled my ass over. 63 in a 30 he said. I said... 30? He said this is a construction zone (it was 9pm at night), and that he wasn't going to write a ticket with double fine, or even mark it as a 30. He gave me a 63 in a 40. He was very cool and I was polite. I usually never get tickets. The last few times I've been pulled over I just get a warning because I BS with the cops and admit guilt. Also, I didn't have my insurance card. I just got back in town from Colombia, and I was carrying a wallet with just my DL, Avianca Card, and one CC. I showed him my Insurance card that expired right before I left in my glovebox, and told him the up to date cards were at home. He didn't write me up for that. He said he figured people with late model cars had insurance.

I always speed. I will never stop. I've never been involved in an accident going faster than 25mph. I've only had one at fault accident in my adult life, and that was at my house because I didn't keep the e-brake on..

Anyway, I figure I will go to court and get driving school. It is only a 120 dollar fine. I'm only worried because I had to plead guilty about a year and a half ago to a 102 in a 70 on I-85 leaving Auburn. State Trooper got me. Incredibly cool guy as well. Last time I got a ticket in 03, the DA didn't want to give me driving school because of past tickets that were dismissed. I went to Court and the Judge got pissed at the DA and gave it to me anyway.

I've been about 5/6 for getting tickets thrown out or going to driving school. The only one that stuck was the 102 in the 70. I didn't contest that one because I'm not a fvcking idiot. Keep in mind I'm not talking about 6 tickets in the past few years. I'm talking about 7 years here. All speeding tickets but one (reckless driving when I was 16 because the officer said I squealed my tires).

I really don't care about going to driving school this time. I'm about to be married and I'm 24. I don't really see how this ticket can hurt my insurance. I pay about 120 a month
for full coverage on a 1 year old Benz. I just don't see it going up. Anyone have experience with getting busted by a ticket for an increase?

Evan, put the crack pipe down. It's time for bed.
I am kind. I like you. I will not judge you, but you are a speeder. Please do not kill any kids, dogs or cats. ;)

My dog? I'm firmly sure she doesn't need transportation by automobile.

I'm a sinner. I killed two armadillos in the past year.

I'm a speeder as well, although I will say that 6 tickets in 7 years is on the high end as far as I'm concerned. I think I have something like 5 speeding tickets in the last 10 years, and I'd consider that a bit much.

Like I said, I only have one on my record.

Still, even if only one of those five tickets were on my record, I'd consider it a bit much to have been pulled over that many times.

Well, to clarify, 4 of them came when I was 16 and had a red Mustang. The others came later on. One when I was 20 that was dismissed (ran a red light), 1 for the 102 in 70, when I was 21 and then this latest. So basically, I went 4 years without a ticket, 2 years without a ticket, and then 1 in consecutive years.

That's not horrible by any means, and I wasn't implying that even at a ticker per year it'd be disgustingly bad. Although I'm sure even you would admit that 4 tickets at 16 is pretty dumb, red mustang notwithstanding. I had a red CRX as my first car, so I know how that can be.

I personally feel that the vast majority of speed limits are BS; I'm all about graded licensing systems, but that won't be happening anytime soon, so I do what I can to abide by the (sometimes asinine) laws that exist.

25 over is usually reckless driving, no? So you're lucky he changed it to 23 over from 33 over, or you most likely would have gotten your insurance raised. I've never had mine raised because of a ticket, but I generally only get one every 4 or 5 years, and I don't think it's ever been for more than 15 over. Frankly you're lucky your insurance is that low on such an expensive sporty car. I think mine was ~150/mo. on my Eclipse in the early 90s with a perfect record.

Roads are not even reasonable for most people to go at the speed limit, which is why 95%+ of people speed, at least by a few miles per hour!

Sooner or later you'll slow down. For me, it was when I lost my license and had to drive under suspension to get to work.
I became a model driver. The kids bitch at me for how slow I drive, and it's usually five or 10 mph over the speed limit, just so I don't stick out like a sore thumb.
I'm not in any hurry to get anywhere anymore. It's nice.
Although I will admit that since I've been playing NFS:Carbon all day, I've started driving like an idiot again when I get in my car.
But that'll pass.

I didn't read all that....pics? heheh

That sucks though, a 23 mph ticket (15mph+ actually) would be enough here to nearly suspend you license for 6 months (basically any other moving violation within 6 months and your license is toast).

Usually insurance will ignore the first ticket if it's not crazy even a DUI. Depends on carrier nowadays though with many of them trying to unload customers.

No experience in that realm here, but my answer is that it depends on your insurance company. Each one evaluates risk separately by some arcane methods involving boiling cauldrons, gazing balls and cycloptic seeresses so, if they decide you're more of a risk than you should be, then up, up, and away with the premium. You don't see how this one ticket can trigger a raise for you, but you're not the one stirring the cauldron. Maybe you'll get lucky.

No offense, but if I were your insurance company, I would jack your rates right up after seeing this post. You are definitely an increased risk. You are just lucky that the cops around there are nice. Anywhere else, you would probably be paying twice that easily for insurance.
