I first of all want to thank everyone for tuning me into all these great deals! Here's one in return, and good luck! I found the Yamaha Lightspeed 16x10x40 (p/n 086792277134) on clearance at my local (Orlando, FL) Staples store for $137.40. I then added a pack of Fuji cdrw's (p/n 074101754759)($19.98 and I will be using the $5 rebate on them!) and used the $30 off $150 coupon.

$137.40
$19.98
less $30.00 staples coupon
$127.38
less $50 MIR Yamaha
less $5 MIR Fuji
grand total $72.38 for a new 16x10x32 and a pack of Fuji (made in Japan) CDR's

I sure hope it's nationwide. I saw the same drive at Best Buy for $199.00. If they price matched and then used the MIR, it would stiil be $87.40 for the drive only. Still not a bad deal...

By the way, I want to also thank those that tuned me in on the "made in Japan" CDR's. I had purchased a 50 pack of Fuji's a few months ago, and have noticed quite a difference in the quality of those over XYZ Taiwan brands!

not complaining, just letting you know you found a great deal, it's just that someone else found it too. The more the merrier.

Where is the sale tax? You would pay almost $140 before getting $55 rebate. Final cost will be around $85.

There is only one uncertainty that is holding me back from getting this:
Does the burner have burn-proof technology (which I think makes it so that you can do things like play Quake 3 while burning a disk, and not have any problems).

If it does, that would be AWESOME. The burner that I have now requires me to close all aplications running, and I can't even move the mouse while it burns :)

has an 8mb buffer, but according to Nero 5.5 it does not have burn proof (or buffer underrun protection as it calls it).

it's 16x tho, take 5 mins from playing games, and burn :)

i'll stick to my 16x TEAC with burnproof thanks.

Cybordolphin: There is a rebate for Fuji CDR's that can be found at OfficeMax that expires today June 30th. I'm not sure if there's another rebate elsewhere. ;)

Yeah... that's what I thought. And the Staples rebate for the Fuji's ended the 16th.

Just checkin.

Thanks.

This drive does NOT have burnproof or safeburn. Only the new 20x Yamaha has it. If your system can handle the transfer rates and you don't mind not playing any 3d games while it's burning it's a good deal. Personally I'm waiting for the 20x scsi Yamaha to become affordable. That or I could wait till DVD-RW becomes standard but I have the feeling I'll be waiting a looooong time. :)
