Hey cecil, like a true junior you are not paying attention. this is a QUANTUM hard drive.

DJ, I won't be too hard on you since you at least tried - but for god's sake this has been posted at least 5 times over the last 4-5 months. Please use the search function before posting.

I'm with you on this one Red Dawn. Maybe this post is good for new members that don't even know about this kind of deals. Lighten up we have such uptight bunch of people on this board.

I can't believe we've gone 17 posts and the Quantum vs. IBM Deskstar debate hasn't started up yet! Already this thread is better than all the others.

Hey, I got my drive today, but it just came in a brown box with the serial.part and sku # on the side? Is this the typical retail packaging of quantum drives?
thanks!

That's probably because what you got is OEM and not retail packaging. You just got the drive and not much else in the packaging right? That's what you get for 140-30(or 20)-30 rebate = hot deal.

And what's with this Quantum Vs IBM debate? 😉

Well, can I get the rebate on the OEM version of the drive. All the rebate form asks for is a proof of purchase.

Yes, you can absolutely positively get the rebate on the OEM version of the drive. In fact, if you notice, the rebate form doesn't even require a UPC symbol. I mailed in the rebate request before I had even received the actual drive (just print your buy.com receipt). I received my check about 8 weeks after sending in the info.
