First Overclock!

Hey,

Just overclocked my winchester from 1.8 to 1.9. Just did a really basic boost on the internal clock. My goal now is to learn more about overclocking and get this cpu up to FX-53/55 levels by April.

Couldn't have done it without the people on this forum, thx.

Antec 250W 😕 i dont think you will get that far i.e. upto 2.6 (quote fx55 speeds) with that power supply.

but good luck none the less 🙂

Picked up a 400watt Antec power supply. Updated my chaintech nf4 bios and OC'ed to 2.25ghz.

I'm running
250mhz htt
4x
100mhz dimm

I haven't messed with the voltage yet. But I will soon 🙂. It's just too late right now. For cooling I'm using a cool operator 20inch with stock cpu heatsink/fan.

So happy 🙂.

Edit: Got to 2.295ghz. My HTT won't go over 257. Set it to 3x and same thing. Guess I need to learn a little more heh.

Keep up the good work, I see 2.4 to 2.6Ghz in your future!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Remember, you should lower your HTT multiplier down to 3x when you go above 250Mhz (251-333) HTT speeds. I have to use 2x on my mobo because 3x is broke 🙁 .

Raise the vCore to 1.5v or 1.55v and raise the vChip a notch if you can. If you're using the stock AMD cooler, it's safe.

Ah, but still, you've got to give props to that Antec 250W. Try running that rig with the crap 300-400W PSUs from those $20 cases.

I wouldn't even trust my hardware (at stock) to a generic PSU, much less try to OC with one. :Q

So far I've hit 2.53 with HTT 280x9. I can't get the last .7ghz to break the FX-55 Barrier. After I read a little more about voltage control I'm sure I'll get there.

Have you loosened your ram timings?

Are you stable at all?

I haven't tested the stability yet. Runs 3dMark05 fine but that's hardly 24 hour prime95. I'm not familiar with loosening ram timings yet.

Loosening ram timings won't hurt your scores a bit (since A64s are very independent on ram), it'll only raise your OC-ing limits. Make sure you run P95 asap, no OC is a good OC until it passes Prime.
