First Overclock

I have a Athlon 2700+,512MB Corsair PC2700 and Asus a7n8x

So far I've done this:

I set the external clock to 200MHz, but ends up being 199
got a clock mul to 11 and this gives me 2.189GHZ - not far from original 2.158
Memory timings set to 3,3,2,2Cas

I can't set the CPU any higher because of instability and I'm pretty happy with the fsb.

Almost made me wish I bought a barton, extra cache could've helped out.

PCMARK2002
cpu - 6987
mem - 5102

up from

cpu - 6580
mem - 4201

What do you think for first time?

not good i think since u only gained a couple of Hz which you prolly wont noticed the difference w/ your old settings. try using 5:4 ratio on ur ram instead of 1:1 and up the fsb more.

btw, is that 333fsb cpu or the 400fsb cpu? if 333 then try lowering ur fsb w/ higher multi.

I'd leave the FSB alone since your RAM will hold you back. You don't want to use a RAM divider with an AthlonXP system... that kills performance unless you can get a lot more speed out of it, which you probably can't since your XP2700 is already at 2158. Keep the FSB at 166, keep the RAM at 166, raise your multiplier by .5 until it becomes unstable. if you could provide the stepping on your XP2700 that would be more helpful in determining whether you're more likely to have bad luck or good luck getting more speed out of it.

Memory frequency is at 100% making it work at 199 even though its says 200

If I lowered the fsb and uped the multiplier from 13 to 13.5 to reach 2800 speeds, at 14 I would reach 2324MHz and I would often crash into windows, higher than that at 15 giving me 2500MHz, it wouldn't start loading windows and reboot.

Right now my temperature mostly playing music is 47C and 33C.

It would barely ever go over 50 and mobo 33 is the highest.

I have no Ram sinks either, but they dont seem to be running to hot anyway.

I've tried many combinations and this seems to give me the best performance according to PCMARK2002.

Can you explain how those ratios work.
