Ok im doing my first overclock i have been doing alot of reading on forums as well as tech blogs.. it sounds like this is gonna be fairly easy. just adjust the fsb to about 445 with the multiplier at 9, maybe bump the v core up a bit... however i know you guys have all kinds of knowledge that i can never get from reading forums... basically i was wondering if you could just give me some tips on simple things i may have missed like other bios settings that need tweaked you know just stuff that you have came across in your OC'ing.. cuz i really need all the help i can get i dont wanna mess my new rig up
and i have a couple specific questions

1. how do you know when to bump vcore up and what is the "healthy range", specificly what should i not go over
2.using software to messure my temps what i try to keep my temps under, cpu, chipset
3.what ram timing do you suggest and since im using 1066 ram will i even need to touch anything with my ram since it should be able to just handel the speeds for the overclock stock right?

the setup

CPU:E8400 batch q747a
Cooler: Zerotherm Nirvana 120mm
MOBO: EVGA 780i ( EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1)

You should read graysky's guide at the top of this forum.

Also, I don't recommend dialing in 445FSB right away. Work your way up to it.

Somewhere between 400~450FSB the board performance drops significantly. I'd start with 400FSB.

This will get you started easily and you can try up'ing things.

-Disable everything regarding Speed Spectrum
-CPU Multi: x9
-HT Multi: x4
-FSB: 1600 (QDR)
-Linked/Sync Mode (Disable SLI Memory)
-Set timings to 5-5-5-15-2T and leave the bottom half auto

-CPU voltage: 1.225V
-Memory Voltage: 2.0V
-vSPP: 1.35~1.40V
-vMCP: Auto
-vSPP-MCP: Auto

Keep an eye on SPP/MCP temperatures.
