The car is a performance car. Have you driven a Lotus? It's been a lame argument against the Vette for a while now just people want something to b!tch about IMHO. It was the best performance car for the money, hands-down.
GM has improved their interiors across the board and it makes sense it would go here as well. It's certainly nice, but I would take the new car with the old interior any day. This is a bonus...
I do agree that the higher-trim Vettes deserved better interiors. Chevy has done a good job in keeping most of the performance items standard for all Vette trims, and the interior will at least now be acceptable in the Z and ZR trims.
Yes, I've driven a Lotus. A little leather, some carpet, aluminum (not exactly a cheap material to make interiors out of but it is lightweight), and plastic.
I really don't think you can compare the two. The Corvette tries to be a modern production car with the usual amenities. The Lotus does not. It is not a particularly comfortable place to be, it makes a great track day car and it is a great drivers car. It is not a great daily driver.
