Linky work fine here!

Built mostly by private donations and carry's everything (rail, car, utilities, even data lines). Toll roads though.

P.S. Let's hope it turns out better than the "Big Dig"! :Q

That BIG Dig was a catastrophe. Boston needs to invest ITS money into something more plausible and useful.🙂

bi-level LIE!!! it would rock!
you have no idea how many times I've thought about that. No idea.

It's taking them something like 2-3 years to put in an HOV lane down 20 extra exits.. how long do you think i t may take them to do more highway ? Damn NY traffic. :|

Don't know until they get the damn thing to stop leaking!

There were leaks everywhere, the projects succeded/went over its budget and the taxes paying for the project went from West. Mass which is where I live. A lot of people here are angry for Boston taking their money and using it for not the west mass's benefit but for boston's benefit.🙂
Anyway, it's a local issue.😎

Totally agree with toll roads

I think that they are a nice way to make the users pay for the service directly

On another note, what if peak oil happens right about now and by the time this highway system is built it's going to be useless?

Toll roads: a disturbing notion.

Not really. Yeah, for average motorists tolls suck. But these proposed megahighways are not intended for average motorists, they're targeted at the large scale movement of goods. The idea isn't to charge tolls for people who want to drive from one side of Houston to the other. It's to get the freight haulers off of I-35 and onto a dedicated superhighway so that the smaller ones remain usable for commuter traffic.

It's actually a sound idea since for freight carriers time is money. Saving a couple of hours of bumper-to-bumper jams is worth the cost of the tolls. The problem is that it's not going to happen. It's too big, too unpopular and has too many opponents. You might be able to steamroll the ranchers and homeowners who would lose their land due to eminent domain. There's no way they're going to be able to do that to the major cities who stand to lose traffic and money by people bypassing them. They own the congressmen and the congressmen will do whatever their prime fundraisers want. This project is dead.

something like 45% of the population of TX lives within 60 miles of I-35

this needs to be done. if nothing else widen I-35 to 6-8 lanes all the way from OK to San Antonio.

I'd hate to be a landowner in Texas where this thing is proposed. Eminent Domain is abused regularly by local and state governments.
