Interesting. It's been more than 40 years since we heard anything "new" from Jimi...

I would like to see the company that did the Tupac "hologram" for some concert performance last year would do one for Hendrix

a quick search brings up the list of what's on it and where it comes from. Sure I'll get it at some point, but a lot of that stuff sounds familiar. Can't have too much Hendrix.

So where did these come from? They all seem 'new' to me, and I've got his whole damn catalogue. Every release, plus the big-ass box set they put out, and maybe a little more.

Granted, I generally listen to Hendrix on shuffle and don't pay much attention to titles.

It is no more "new" than other posthumous albums that cull his many outtakes. Jimi was extremely prolific and in just 4 short years amassed a mountain of recorded music. Much of it was loose jams or embryonic songs, which is what this release is mostly comprised of.

At this point the new releases are scraping the bottom of the barrel for commercial purposes. I'm not sure that they are doing his legacy any favors.

Basically, I agree with you. It's all about the money for whomsoever controls his estate. I noticed that quite a bit of is seemed like jam sessions as much as it did "songs," but it's still nice to hear "new" music from him anyway.

Recently they have been going in and using ProTools to build tracks that didn't exist before. It gives them material that can be considered commercial but the timing is off as they lift a vocal take from a track recorded from a different session. It makes Jimi seem more amateur as a musician.

There is still some good live material that hasn't been released for whatever reason. Some of those jam sessions are quite good if you are into the free form jazz style, and if they package it as such it is a good way to put some of his gems out.

I'm personally more excited about the mono vinyl release of his first two albums and a couple singles. The vintage vinyl sells for an arm and a leg, and they are dedicated mono mixes. Not just mere fold downs.

Somewhere sounds like Castles Made of Sand. The guitar riffs are similar in parts of it.

Hear My train a comin' has a similar riff to Spanish Castle Magic, but slowed down.

On second listen of the album now...
I have a pretty decent sized collection of Hendrix and this is up there with some of my favorite studio material. They did a nice job on the mix, at least to these untrained ears.
While these songs have been out there in one form or another, some of these takes are new to me.
