That's probably it. Just show up on time for your shifts and do your job correctly. That already makes you a better worker than most. I guess you could try to take extra tasks and whatnot to show you're really willing to work whatever area, but it depends if this is just a summer job or you plan to stay for a couple of years.

Until I find something better :p I mean, its a job and thats something that might be hard to find right now.

Does anyone know the best time to ask about cross training. Is is something I should ask right away or should I wait a little bit?

NEVER arrive for work less than 10 minutes early. You may not clock in until your shift starts, but never get there "on time."

Give a day's work for a day's wages. Anything less and you're stealing.

Remember this...getting a job is hard...keeping it requires work.

Sometimes, a shitty job is better than no job. Most of us have been there at one time or another.
As for the cross-training, ask when the appropriate time comes up, or if your manager mentions it...otherwise, wait at least 60 days...or until your probationary period is over.

Showing up on time, working hard, and being honest are surprisingly rare traits that will make you a valuable employee. Like you said, just not being an imbecile will take you far.

At your level, it's more important to work well with your co-workers than it is to worry about your boss. Your boss is probably a dumbass. Unless you plan on becoming CEO of Target, your job is to get along well with your co-workers, do your work well so your boss gives you as many hours as you want, and get paid.

So how early should one ideally arrive? 20min, half an hour?

Pretty sure all the stores have those automatic cart pushers. I actually did it manually about 10 years ago at Wally World. They have it easy now.

That was my first job...I kind of miss it. On nice days, you go outside. I lost so much weight....then I gained it back and more in college.

advice...show up and do what your told. Also, do not be afraid to have fun....you're still young and when you grow up, you'll be thinking how much you missed having little responsibility jobs.

I worked at Meijer Thrifty Acres (Think they are just Meijer now) - think Walmart but with a soul and only in the great lakes region. I lived in SEMICH at the time so weather was always a factor.

I did it manually - with a cart rope which has a s hook on the end of it and a baton on the other side. Goal was to just keep the carts together, you gathered up 10 or so at a time, hooked the end cart and held it all together while you pushed.

Don't hit people. Watch out for children, they are stupid and will get in front of you and you cannot see them. Watch out for drivers. People are idiots. Don't play work politics. Just do your job, then go home. Its not worth gossiping, chatting up some chick, talking smack about the boss or anyone.

Find a buddy - someone you relate to. It makes work go better.

If they allow it, an mp3 player with 1 earbud would be awesome. I doubt they allow it. I used a walkman cassette player (which dates me). I wore out the Sepultura chaos AD tape that year by winter.

Fix the ones that don't roll straight. Pisses me off when I'm trying to ride one down the parking lot and the damn thing pulls to the side.

17, almost 18. Been a hell of a time even finding something.

lol unless you're planning on a career in cashier management and not going to college then just show up and do your work. No need to suck up to bosses if this is just a temp job while you're young.

I used to work at a supermarket when i was 17-18 doing stock clerk work. I just show up, do my work, walk around, procrastinate a little (but got enough work done), and ate some "free" dairy drinks/food in the cooler.... then i went to college and got an engineering degree.

Treat this job as an example of why you should study hard in school.

I worked at Target during high school and during breaks in college. As long as you show up to work, don't talk trash to your supervisors, and get things done, you will excel.

It's not like you are competing against a bunch of bright go-getters. You are mostly going to be working with idiots.

lol yeah I know. I just don't want to totally muck it up and want to get something inside before the heat gets really bad if possible. :)

I would suggest a movie theater :)

Usually last showings are for employees or something like that.

Yeah, don't sweat it. Just make sure you show up on time and you work hard. But don't treat this like something you're going to want to stay at, unless you aren't going to college...but please tell us you're going to go get an engineering degree like the rest of us!

you should sell dope at the same time triple your hourly rate and gives you an excuse to roam the parking lot talking to random people. Be smart though don't keep your entire stash on you. just what you are immediately selling.

Let us know how you like your cart job once you get start, btw. I always sort of wondered what that would be like.
