First HDD Install troubles.

Howdy all, in the process of getting my first computer up and running [Not prebuilt..]

So all is going well, except for when i try to get windows installed.

Windows tells me to make sure my hard drive is properly installed, and it restarts..

It has power and it's linked to PRI_SATA

And when i first got it up and going, it setup the drive.. or so I thought

Little help?

Not exactly sure what you mean by this....but when you first run the Windows install, you'll see a message at the bottom of the screen saying "Press F6 to install a third-party SCSI or RAID driver" and here you should start tapping F6 repeatedly, then pop in your SATA driver floppy when prompted.

What if after I hit f6 it still doesnt prompt me


After all this time of being told i didnt need a floppy drive anyways.. blegh, good thing i have my good old dell i can't get into

it doesn't prompt you right away after hitting F6. Let Windows install load its other drivers, and then it will prompt you.

Is this a USB keyboard?

No, its one of the older type [purple connector] I have a usb one, it just seems to have problems hitting fkeys before windows is running.

Now, i've got my new floppy ready [with the makedisk] pop it in when it says to for windows, and it just brings up the screen again in 5 seconds to pop something into the a drive

Wow. I'm a retarded, didnt have the cord properly connected, thus making it not read, but now it reads it, says that it will load files for this driver [for the 378ata] so i hit enter to continue with installation.

It says it can't find an installed Harddrive.. what to do?

Check that the cables are properly connected, and the drive is jumpered right. Also go into your BIOS and set it as the boot drive (may be called SCSI).

May I suggets slipstreaming WinXP + your SATA drivers onto a cd? I did this and it worked flawlessly. You can search for "slipstream" in general hardware and it should bring up a post I made a few days ago. Adul posted in there a link to a walk-thru guide that you can follow. It's really easy.
