oh fuck sand fleas man!

those are gonna be the ones that get us, and get us good.

I seriously love Boston Dynamics.
I think we'll be fine, as long as they remain as they are. If Google ever buys BD - we're all fucked. :D

BD very much has the potential to become a Cyberdyne, but it's too damn cool to watch in the slow making to really give a damn. :p

Then again, there already IS a Cyberdyne... but they make HAL.

Okay, they really need to contact DICE and get some fluid motion worked out....because that is creepy as all hell.

And I must be wayy too much of a Terminator nerd because I was expecting this when I came into this thread:

Just as long as they never make them look like a naked, anatomically correct Arnold.

If it's in testing now then it might be ready for deployment around the time Intel releases the CPU after Skylake/Skymont.

Whatever that is going to be.

I believe the name of the CPU after Skylake/Skymont is Skynet.

Oh...wait...

The link says that it balances itself, but what were those two cables at the top? I assumed they were to assist in balance.

Probably doesn't want it running away if there's some issue.

This is a little short-sighted. It's an extremely complicated robot that needs to be tested for a long, long time. If you want to be sure your multi-million dollar robot doesn't fall over and explode, you take the necessary precautions, especially while it's in the lab where unvetted code will be written and debugged regularly.

So this is a step up from the 600 series which had rubber skin and Kyle Reese could spot, but before the 800 series with real tissue?

Civilian use:
1) Bring back Data, long after Brent Spiner's fully retired or dead.
2) Bring back more dead celebrities, in android form.

Whats the point of MOPP gear when its a robot underneath? Who gives a damn if its exposed to a blister agent? Just hose it off before you have to handle it later.

Presumably you put sensors on the robot, then dress it in MOPP gear, then have it walk around in a contaminated environment to see what gets past the MOPP gear.

The robot is testing whether certain textiles will even survive repetitive human motions.
