And the best bang for my buck would be to buy an amd FX 6300 cpu. But I heard it will get devoured by arma

I did some research. Arma is really hard on all CPU but a little less hard on Intel like others have said here.

So with that in mind I think I got a nice system here $634. The only thing missing is the operating system which will cost you about $84 on sale for Windows 7 64bit. Make sure you get 64bit whether you get windows 8.1 or 7. If you want to work the operating system price into the $650 limit then you are going to have to cut corners on some things.

Notice there are a couple rebate offers in this that could save you cash if you are buying soon while the offer is good.

Yeah that's just like my build except I upgraded the cpu to a i3 4360 3.7 GHz. Any major difference between the 4360 and 4150? I'm going to do some research

I'm going to say it and leave. Take it for what it's worth. H97/Pentium g3258. It will overclock into the high 4's on the stock cooler and smoke those i3's in ARMA.

This build will cost me around 740 on pcpartpicker.com
Where would I go about looking for cheaper parts? This site gives a list of prices and sites already

This is a good build for no-OC ARMA3 (and by extension Day-Z) performance. A couple of small suggestions:

- The R9 280 3GB like this MSI for $180 is generally faster than the GTX 760 and has more VRAM for high-res texture packs and future games.
- If you don't play a lot of different games at the same time, consider a 256GB SSD like the Crucial MX100 for $112 instead of the HDD. An SSD will greatly improve loading times and general application performance.
- You can save about $10 on RAM by going with this Team DDR3 1600 8GB kit for $69.

Faster is always better but you gave me a budget to work with.

Nothing major. You still have 2 cores just a bit more top end.

Notice the i3 at 3.1ghz is getting a little more frames than the 6300. So if you are running 3.5 even better yet. But they are using a powerful video card also. That game is a resource hog for sure.

So I think it's settled. I'm going to go with this build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/PRGm23
The reasons being, I heard Intel cpus run well on Arma although it is pricey. Also, my gpu isn't necessarily a cheap one so I think the gtx 760 should get the job done. All in all, if I play arma on medium settings, I should be getting 40-60 fps. But thank you guys for all your help. You guys are awesome! I would say my next step is to find discounts on all these parts! Haha

You are underestimating how awesome solid state hard drives are. They are one of the best upgrades you can do to a computer. Since you removed it from your build you will be slower booting, opening programs and games, and overall response time playing/working within the windows 7 will be slower.

But once you are in game playing it doesn't matter if you have solid state or a spinning hard drive like you chose the game will run the same. The only difference is maps load slower. But I wanted you to know.

Most people put the operating system on a ssd and all their games and other things that don't need to open fast on a slave hard drive(non-ssd) with a large capacity. That's what I do. I have a 120gig ssd for the OP and my steam games go on my 1tb 7200rpm hard drive.

Have fun building.

Looks like a solid build. Add a SSD down the road (and clone your OS over onto it, or reinstall) for a great all-around upgrade.

You should check out my suggestions from post #30. Even if you don't take all of them, there are a couple which will straight up save you money for no downside.

PCPartpicker finds the cheapest list price and gives it to you. Whatever's listed on PCPartpicker is the cheapest you're going to find that part.

Why are you afraid of overclocking? It's free performance. It's very easy to do on Intel and there is zero risk of damaging any components. Just read one of the many simple guides available and do it.

Here's what I would personally build for ARMA3

i5 4690K (And I'd overclock it)
Hyper 212 Evo cooler
ASRock Z97 Extreme 6
2x4GB DDR3 2133
GTX 970 4GB
Corsair 200R case
Corsair CX500 or 600 PSU
(Or if you can still find it on sale EVGA Supernova 650W)

ARMA is a b*tch of a game to run. It's never been particularly well optimized, and it's always needed monster hardware to really chug along. The above is the minimum I would build and I would overclock to a goal of about 4.2Ghz as well.

Glad it worked out for you!

You can't directly upload images on this forum (takes too much space), but you can upload them to another site such as imgur and link them here.
