Un no. You misunderstand me, or perhaps I didn't make it clear. Colbert is a humor show, not a serious political debate. The stuff on Colbert just doesn't stick like the "real stuff".

I think it's both. No one is trying to present The Colbert Report as serious political debate, but that doesn't mean serious political issues aren't discussed and debated over. Real issues and that show are not mutually exclusive. The fact that it was Colbert who exposed this guy for the moron he is doesn't change anything.

Colbert asking a pro-10 Commandments Congressman if he can actually recite the 10 Commandments is the kind of gumption we could actually use from "the real stuff." And I think that "sticks" better than FOX Noise running Anna Nicole Smith footage every 3 min during unpleasant times for the White House (as an example).

But at least you feel good about insulating yourself from unconventional sources of information, no matter the merit of the issue. Whatever floats your boat.

I guess the dummycrats weren't expecting to be lampooned by a comedian simply because they are so loved wherever the go?

Sorry, but being the top dog means you are the target people will hit. What else did they expect? The came in with all these promises and haven't delivered. Of course they are going to have people poke at them.

If they want a safe venue I suggest PBS, Sesame Street may not be the right show as that is instructive. :)

Yeah, the Republicans have sure delivered on their promises: restoring honor and dignity to the White House, a reformer with results, a uniter not a divider, fiscal conservative,etc..
And what did we get? Unnecessary wars, huge deficits, scandal and criminality, partisan politics and $3 a gallon gasoline.
Let's hope democrats don't come close to the Republican example of failure.

Is that going to be your excuse for the next few years? "Yea, but the Republicans did this, the Republicans did that...."

Hey, it worked for you guys for the past 6 years, I think you can give us a few more months of this.

I've seen this posted too many times here to ignore it again - every freakin news channel ran that crap non-stop (except msnbc news which had their usual prison show).

Not interested in Anna Nicole, I kept switching from channel to channel hoping to find soemthing different. Not much luck EVERYBODY was running that tripe. Not just Fox

I loved the one guy who said he loves doing cocaine (or was it crack?) because it's a fun thing to do.

Maybe if politicians can show some evidence that they lack superhuman flexibility, ie no heads up their own asses, maybe they'd stand a better chance of staying in office.

Anyone with a clue will realize that The Colbert Report is not an entirely serious show, though the news cited is generally factual. I like seeing the politicians on there who know what the show is all about, and they're willing to be a bit funny, and that's probably helpful too. If they're more at ease, they'll be less likely to say something stupid without realizing it. Yesterday Colbert talked to some guy who seemed really nervous, and he wound up accidentally saying that it was wrong to break the law to get people out of slavery.
Plus, who knows what all gets shot, and what of that might make it past the cut to get on the show.

Speaking of which, I did like a statement made by his guest, Ayaan Hirsi Ali:
"The only way to fight all fundamentalists is with the fundamental belief that life is an end in itself, that it's sacred, and that the freedom of the individual goes above anything that any god can say..[drowned out].."

You'd think they'd realize that Colbert's show was like O'Rielys, just a spoof.

The problem is that not everyone knows that or cares about it. I remember when that guy said the thing about cocaine, etc. He only did it because he was running unopposed. There is no way in hell he would have said it otherwise. The thing is, it was STILL all over the news... and a lot of people don't pay close enough attention to get the whole story, they just hear "candidate... cocaine". I don't think he's a good example.

Didn't they show that all the people who went on his show got elected? Maybe I'm wrong.

Save the indignation for someone who gives a damn, I never said Anna Nicole footage was a FOX exclusive. I use FOX as an example as it's clearly the most egregious employer of the 'censorship via bullsh!t' tactic.

Not interested in Anna Nicole, I kept switching from channel to channel hoping to find soemthing different. Not much luck EVERYBODY was running that tripe. Not just Fox

Musta struck a nerve as now you're just repeating yourself, and poorly at that.
Guess in your haste to roll eyes you completely missed what I am talking about, again...

Pity.

Yarmuth is the congressman representing my district so I was cracking up when he was talking about kittens. It was so obvious that he knew it was all satire, and he was having fun with it.

Any congressman or woman who doesn't know by now that an interview with Colbert is an exercise in satire deserves being made fun of.
