I'm looking into F@H in my spare time, how would you recommend I set it up? I've done some research but wanted a second opinion.

Specs: i7 870, hd 7770, 8 GB RAM, 550w HIVE PSU.

And I'm assuming this is the right section, if it isn't feel free to move it.

Welcome to Anandtech and yes you are in the right place. The 2 links are your start. Make sure you get your passkey and keep it in a safe place. The Fah-installer is really simple to set up and once installed go into the advanced section to set up your passkey. It may take you to a web page directly to set up also. Our team is 198, this of course if you are deciding to fold for Anandtech. The new installer will detect your cpu and gpu respectively. It also has the option of how much folding power you wish do run. Again welcome and always return here for any questions you wish to have answered.

It should be possible to give every other packet point to a different team. I have 3 teams that I could fold for, but I am going with you guys. I've been in this forum for less than 24 hours and already been welcomed by 4 people! Makes me feel fuzzy, anyone else? ;)

We're a TeAm and we act like it! :p It's why I've stayed all these years.

You should pop into our BBQ thread for some random fun and possibly some good recipes too.

If it says its running, it is. Pretty straight forward app really. You should have run the older one, bit more work but effective . As for the cpu, shows you have 7 threads running. Did you set it to run like this? Other than that you are now working and can check your stats here http://kakaostats.com/t.php?t=198 and here http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=198.

It might have set the 8th for system? I didn't set that. When at full crunching power my cpu is at 100% load.

EDIT; Is my GPU being kinda slow? It's lagging way behind my CPU, which has 8 threads, so that might be it. It's taking 11 hours and it was an estimated 10 2 hours ago. What could be slowing it down? hd 7770 1177/1243 clocks.

Some WU's are large and can take some time to do. Use this link http://www.linuxforge.net/bonuscalc2.php and it will give you some info on each WU your CPU and GPU is working on.

As for your CPU threads, you can check that. Go into advanced and click on the slots tab at top. Then double click (left) the CPU and in there you can see what your CPU is set at. If I remember correctly, it should be set @ -1, which would be 8 threads.

Checked, it was -1. I set it to 2 for overnight silence. The pc is in my room. :p

EDIT: Aha! 2 is actually cores. When I set it to two it uses 4 threads. So 7 is 14 threads? Something is horribly wrong here, I'll leave it for tonight though.:sneaky:

Got my first WU done! http://fah-web2.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=userpage&username=bubbleawsome

How do I tell it to only finish the Wu it is doing?

Grats!

Usually once a CPU and GPU start a WU, it finishes it and moves on to the next as long there isn't any problems with the WU itself or a hardware problem internally. If I remember correctly, at one time you could send a WU if it was unable to complete due to a problem. Now, I don't know. Maybe someone who knows more about this could chime in and help out.

I mean like tell it to finish and stop, so you can leave it or turn it off for a few days.

The WU pretty much "bookmarks" itself. If you were to stop or close the installer, shut down or play a game, then start back up again, it will continue where it left off. If you were to look into the Log tab, you can see the progress it makes by %.

I know, but I am going on a week trip (maybe) and don't want to leave it or just make the WU expire.

Yes, there is a way to not start another WU so you can shut down ... at least there used to be in v7.1.21 ... there is a "Finish" button.
Try right clicking the systray icon. Or try right clicking various places of the app.

To finish a work unit:
right click on task bar icon & click on advanced control.
Look in the middle "folding slots" window.
highlight the cpu slot, right click and choose "finish". It will complete that task and "pause".

repeat for the gpu's.

There may be other ways but that is how I do it.

Good luck and welcome.
