This truck will be a success, like the Titan. It simply has the best powertrain, from VQ40DE on down. Unlike Titan, which has to build it's reputation and sales from ground up, Frontier will hit the ground running. All of Nissan's trucks and SUV's will be hits. The Titan, Armada, Frontier, Xterra, Pathfinder and Murano. All owing their success to Nissan's engine and powertrain genius.

One problem:

Nissan will not offer a regular cab model or return with a Crew Cab long-bed model.

A big WTF!!!!! That was the ONLY reason to get a previous generation Frontier over a Tacoma/S-10/Ranger/etc. And that was the 1 of two deciding factors for my dad getting an '03 Frontier XE 4x4 Crew Cab Long Bed (the other being price).

At least Toyota isn't so damned stupid:

Tacoma Double Cab Long Bed

I wouldn't want to try to parallel park that thing in SF 🙂

I can parallel park it just fine in dowtown Baltimore traffic.

No cool number/letter designations left?

Ford FX-4

Toyota TRD

Chevy/GMC Z-71

Nissan comes crashing out of the marketing meeting swelling with pride after coming up with NISMO?
Am I playing a Gamecube hero or going off-roading?

Other than that, looks pretty sweet for Nissan

ROTFL!!! NISMO has been around for decades!! They just slapped the name on this truck to compete with TRD

I know what it stands for, I just cant believe that they couldnt come up with a better moniker for it. The Titan doesnt have a NISMO package, it just offers an off-road package, which is basically the same equipment.

I hope they dont stick a big NISMO sticker on the back of the bed.

I'm beginning to like the Nissan lineup more and more. I wish I had at least looked at them before I bought my Tacoma. Not that I don't enjoy my truck, but damn, it looks sexy. The engine ain't that bad either.
Poor Ford, the Ranger is not going to get redesigned until 2009???!?!?!?! By then they'll be lucky to get a couple hundred sold per year as Toyo and Nissan go on to their next revision by then. At least Chevy/GMC have the redesigned Colorado. Ford missed the boat on this one.

And Nebor, just shut up, you're making yourself look stupider every post you make. If you want to troll, go to another forum. And why do you want people to die in a fire? Grow up young boy and get a clue.

You obviously know me quite well. 😛

Didn't like the Volvo 530 ?

What year Tacoma did you get??

As for the '05 Tacoma vs '05 Frontier, the Frontier has the edge in HP, but I don't see where else it trumps the new Taco

I definitely would say that it does not trump the Tacoma in any way other than horse power. Also, the Toyota offers the 6spd manual in Crew Cab form (even if only with the short bed) which is a huge plus for it in my book.

<----Will hopefully be buying a '05 Tacoma in the next 6 months.

Actually it's a funny story not yet published in the annals of ATOT. However, let's just say I started with an '02 and now have an '04 all within the timespan of two weeks. Same identical truck really. As for the 05 taco, it took a while but it's starting to grow on me. I never considered the previous Frontiers because I heard from people who own Tacomas who used to own Frontiers that it was underpowered and plasticky inside. Plus I didn't like the styling at first. But like the 05 taco, the Frontier is growing on me.
The only bad thing about doublecab Tacoma's and Frontiers is the size of the bed. It's just too dang short, only like 5 feet. The new 05 Taco has a longer bed which is real nice, but I'd imagine it's like driving a whale.

Damned sissy @ss trucks. WTH is the point if you can't haul a ton of stuff in the bed?

I hope you're kidding. There are a ton of other things that a truck comes in handy for. There's a huge gap between my mom's station wagon and a Ford Super Duty. Stop trying to flex your e-penis.

What e-penis? The truck I use for hauling stuff is an '89 Toyota; regular cab, regular bed with power nothing.

BTW, its just my personal preference that a truck be used for hauling/towing stuff. I'd much rather drive a car for everyday transportation purposes.

I thought you were trying to imply (like others do on this forum) that if you don't have a Ford Super Duty with 8' bed, than you have no reason to have a truck...which gets really, really annoying. It always seems like they are just trying to make them feel better about themselves by "flexing their e-penis". Sorry if that was not what you mean't, but it sure seemed that way from your post "WTH is the point if you can't haul a ton of stuff in the bed".

It is also my preference to drive a car on a regular basis and a truck only for "work/play", but can't always get what we went.

I'd love to have a Nissan Titan for the weekends and an Audi S4 for the rest of the week

.

Truck interiors have come a long way!

YUP

Nissan has the Engine.
The sad thing is the competition has had 10 years to beat the VQ. And they just can't do it.

You act like the 4.0 VQ stomps the Tacoma:roll:

Frontier
265 HP @ 5600 rpm
284 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm

Tacoma
245 HP @ 5200 rpm
282 lb-ft @ 3800 rpm

Besides, the Tacoma makes its HP/torque at lower RPM levels.

Nissan claims a remarkable 265 horsepower and 284 pounds-feet of torque from the 4-liter V-6 that's standard on all but the very cheapest XE two-wheel-drive model. Nissan says the engine makes those numbers burning regular fuel. Nearest rival, the '05 Tacoma, claims 245 hp and 282 lbs.-ft. from its 4-liter V-6 ? but needs premium gas to get that much, Toyota says.

And you have a dyno comparison?
