I just LOVE the design of this car. I could do without the cheesy looking wheels though. The interior is GORGEOUS!

Audi's press introduction of its redesigned flagship, the A8 L, took place in Louisville, Kentucky, on the same weekend as that state's famous horse race

Damn! How did I not hear about this??? Oh, maybe because I was drunk from Thur. night until Sun. morning? :D

Sweet car!

I test drove an Audi A4 a couple times and those guys know how to design interiors. Very plush, tastefully designed, and excellent fit-and-finish. It's just a shame that that quality is only skin deep (as evidenced by their poor reliability).

I love well-executed adjustable air suspensions btw.

Poor reliability compared to which other German manuf? If you are comparing it to a Japanese appliance then yeah you are right.

They lag behind BMW, the Japanese, and the Americans in reliability surveys.

Been praising MMI for a while:

But unlike iDrive, MMI is simple and intuitive ? this writer can vouch for that, as it was a breeze to operate.

DUDE!!!! They look NOTHING alike!!! The rooflines are totally different. The A8 has the VW/Audi "coporate" arched roof while the 7 has the "corportate" roofline with the "dogleg" at that rear doors/windows. The front and rear are totally different on both cars. You need to lay off the weed.

The A8 looks like a more refined version of the previous A8. The new 7 looks like sh!t compared to its predecessor.

You are kidding right...:frown:

BMW has the dubious distintinction of having multiple most recalled cars even in history (X5, mini etc). The only BMW ever to make it near good on the reliability charts is the base 5 series. Show me a Audi with similar problems. Forget the recent coil-pack snafu. That was quite minor. Check BMW forums and you will see the amazing number of problems BMW folks have ....

And less reliable than the Americans ?? again kidding right.

I will give you the Japanese are better and that I mentioned myself before...

You know, there are some advantages to having a car that occassionally needs to be taken to the shop for service!

Audi gives the option of no charge loaner car while your vehicle is in the shop, so I'm personally looking forward to tooling around in a TT this summer while I'm waiting for them to finish the 10,000 mile service on my A4. I hope that they have a convertible on the lot! :)

Dude, if you base your assumptions on anecdotal evidence and "stuff you've heard on forums" about manufacturers, I guess I just don't know what to say to you. If you read ANY car manufacturers' forums, you would think their reliability is sh!t. See the IS300 forums as an example - full of people complaining about tranny problems, etc. yet it is the least problematic car in its class by far. I personally hang out on Infiniti forums, and if you went by the complaint reports of people there, you'd think Infinitis are built like Yugos. Yet they ranked 3rd in JD Power's IQS behind just Lexus and Cadillac. Link. I would bet my money the same is true of the Audi forums, the M-B forums, etc because whiners and bitchers are always the loudest. Nobody's going to post about how trouble-free their car is.

Read reliability surveys, starting with Consumer Reports or JD Power. The americans have come a long way in the last decade (particularly ford and GM) and are ranking ahead of the Germans, and Audi is well behind BMW. Consumer reports has the BMW 3-series above average in their reliability studies and the Audi A4 below average. I did a lot of research on this myself, because I was deciding between these cars among others. Basing yor perception on reliability on what complaints you have heard on forums isn't going to get you anywhere. And basing it on recalls isn't either, as some manufacturers are more likely to issue recalls for minor/low occurrence issues, whereas others may choose to sweep them under the rug. What matters is how many issues are experienced by people in the field, and that's why these reliability studies hold far more value to me than merely the # of recalls.

Er dude, I actually own or owned some of these vehicles. And I am not talking about anecdotal evidence. I read all these forums quite regularly (as in more than couple of years - half a decade plus) and am quite a car buff (especially German cars, may I add). I realize the fact that you will always find a bunch of whiners and problems on each of these forums.

Dude You should know that JD Powers typically takes preliminary evidence into consideration when doing their rankings. If you take the most recent JD you would see folks ranking the new H2 as the worst and if you read a little further you will also realize that folks have ranked it last just because it sucks in fuel consumption... So you see it's got nothing to do with reliability necessarily. CR would be a better interpretation and frankly the BMW 3 (after almost 5 years in production it better bloody have all kinks ironed out) and A4 (brand new 1st year model) are neck to neck. The base 5 is the only one which makes above the water cut. And also you mentioned about issues or intensity of issue - exactly my point. BMWs have known to blow engines a good bit (5 and M3) where Audi's are built like a tank. Audi's are more likely to have some minor issues - electrical, glass, regulator etc. And yes generally Audi dealerships & service ( and VWAG as a whole) sucks compared to BMWs. Unfortunately CR doesn't necessarily brand/classify them separately. So a fault is listed as a fault. Plus ask any older model BMW owner the cost of maintaining a BMW and compare than to an equivalent year Audi. I hope you get my point.

Your research means didly squat to me, since I can do (and actually do too) a good bit of research and found actually Audi's quite well compared to BMW if not better. This is including consensus of many folks whom I know personally and own these cars.

You have still failed to quantify how "Audi is well behind BMW"...

The wheels are about my only complaint. I love the car otherwise. I love how the instruments are lined up with teh steering wheel like a good drivers car should be.
