First Drive: 2003 Toyota Corolla

I like the new styling of the LS300, Camry, and Corolla, but Toyota, in the U.S. at least, seems to make it their mission to make tame, conservative cars at each market segment, with the exception of the IS300. I would definitely take a less-attractive (to my eyes) but far sportier Sentra SE-R rather than one of these.

I like the appearance of the 2003 Corolla but I wouldn't buy it because it appears Toyota has done little to improve the suspension. I'd be embarassed to buy the S model with its garish look-at-me rocker panels just to find the body exhibits economy-car handling characteristics in the twisties. You could almost call it rice (wow, stock Toyota rice).

<< Nissan~Driven >>

Hey Rossman,
it's "Nissan ~ Driven" with spaces around the tilde
at least get it right 😛

and the corolla's got nothing on the SE-R.

LOL Thanks for showing me the proper Nissan fanboi etiquette.

Rallispec

Can i test drive your car sometime?

I'm live in SPringfield, Annandale, and Woodbridge.

I can meet you in Manasas.

🙂

hehehe

toant, i'll be home for easter break thursday until monday--- if you're serious, PM me and i'd be glad show off the car 🙂

spooner--- what do you want to know about it..
se-r / spec v specs.

if you cant find it on there, ask me and maybe it will be in my owners manual or something like that.

spec V only comes in the 6spd

the se-r comes in an automatic and a 5spd manual

i got my spec V fully loaded for $17,900 (msrp $19,600)

What are the notable differences between the Spec V and the SE-R?

i can't drive stick 😱

Ralli -- looking at the pics of your car.... looks pretty sweet. Is that a red interior ? What are the other options? The Nissan site doesn't totally work because of my company's firewall... so dont think i'm an idiot

differences between the spec v and se-r

spec v has 17" alloy wheels, 175hp, 6spd, sports suspsension, 9 speaker 300 watt stereo, and a few other things

se-r has 16" alloy wheels, 165hp, 5spd or automatic, 7 speaker, 180 watt stereo and a few other things

options that mine has-
sunroof, 6 disc in dash changer, rockford fosgate stereo, all wheel disc brakes, dual airbags

the spec v also has the red interior with bucket seats, which looks really cool in person. The se-r just comes in the standard beige, grey colored interior.

Why is this turning into a damn Nissan thread:| Damn Nissan fanboys are worse than GUTB turning every thread into a buy Nissan thread!! If Nissans were so damn good, you wouldn't need to keep trying to sway everyone to them.

Nissan worldwide production is down; Toyota's, Honda's, and Mazda's are on the upswing.

Anyway, BACK TO THE COROLLA!! I think that it is a pretty nice vehicle for the money. Not everyone is up for the performance side of things. If they were, everyone would be buying Nissans. But they DON'T. B/C frankly, Americans don't care. That's why Toyota stomps Nissan in sales across the board. The Corolla is the best selling vehicle of all time and like Toyotas in general, they have a high repeat buyer/customer loyalty rating.

Hee hee - No offense, NFS4, but I continue to be a bit nonplussed by your zealous support of Toyota. You are obviously a car junkie, but it seems Toyota nowadays has little interest in the enthusiast driver, and, as I said above, they make some of the least interesting cars around at each price point. They are beautifully made and generally quite reliable, but the Corolla S is just NOT a fun car, hence all of the mentions of the Sentra SE-R, which is.

So what if the Corolla isn't sporty? Who said it was? This was a thread about the Corolla, what does Nissan have to do with it?

As far as sporty goes, "sporty" doesn't sell in the US. "Middle of the Road" is what sells which is why Accords, Camrys, and Tauruses will always outsell Altimas and Maximas.
