psssssht, we've had those around here for a while now. My jaw still drops every time I see one, I think they're great. Can't wait for a drive, as I got to drive an old Hummer last year.

Bets on the first rap video it will show up in?

Extra points if you can guess the correct size of the chrome rims that will be on it.

Me too... these things look like big tonka toys... It'd take a very big gun mounted to the top to keep me from snickering when the US armed forces pulled up next to me in one. ;)

I don't think they're selling them yet, but working right next to the GM tech center, I see at least 2 or 3 of them a day.

The H2 is smaller. Its is also a little lower to the grond so even the average person can get in it easy.
The H2 is based on a updated GM truck frame, and uses the gas motor(the big gas motor). It is made to be a comfort vehicle that can still go off road and cost a lot less then the H1, so they will be more mainstream.

Very profitable for GM, and helps their image even more.

on a different topic, is it true what I read, that GM has taken ABS and airbags of its list of standard equipment?

no, it comes with both. I believe it would be illegal to not put airbags in a new car.

This meant GM couldn't pass off one of its infamous rebadge jobs using a reskinned Tahoe and some big plastic "H"s stuck to the tailgate

I like that line there. Very true. Is this H2 based on the Avalanche truck frame, which is based on a Sierra p-up truck frame? That is very disappointing.

*EDIT*
Although we found the H2's cabin comfortable throughout the duration of our test drive, we couldn't help but feel that for nearly $50,000, the H2's material and build quality are below par. Low-quality gray plastic abounds, the door panels flex and a rap on the dashboard sounds about the same as knocking on an empty box of Corn Flakes. The console-mounted shift lever is made to look like those found in multi-million dollar corporate jets, but grab a hold of it and you'll find that, despite its metal color, it's plastic just like the dash. Not only that, it can be moved about in its moorings even while in Park ? not exactly the rock solid, industrial feel its appearance suggests.

Typical American vehicle...it's a shame really. I read the review and the thing is a monster. If they could make the interior a little more sturdy, I'd consider buying it. I know it's not supposed to be super-luxo vehicle (ala MB ML420) but at least they could make it sturdy! "Console lever can me moved about on it's moorings" "dash sounds like empty box of Corn Flakes" WUWT?

More like the H1/2. It doesn't look like it has the abilities that were listed as required when the hummer was designed for the military. The H2 looks like it'll be strictly a civilian deal.

...and prodigy, my money is on 24" chrome rims, though gold wire rims are a possibility :)

That was the point. They want to make hummer offroadability available to the general public, the $80,000+ H1 was a little inaccessible.

Whats wrong with the Sierra frame? it's the strongest of ALL the 1/2 ton frames, the Ram may look tough but the 1/2 Ram has been all looks for years.

Plus the Avalanch has a coil rear end unlike the Sierra.
