First Class Controller Driven Big Screen Games?

After years of ignoring PC gaming and mainstream gaming in general (I own both a 360 and PS3 but not a single COD game) I have decided I want to try out some modern livingroom gaming. Some of what is bringing me in is nostalgia of old classics- like the Ducktales remake- but I want to play some new stuff too.

My main thing is I only want to buy games that are first class with a controller and with big screen. I know Steam will tell me which games support a controller, but I only want to touch ones where the controller experience is just as good as you would receive on consoles and it is not just a token feature bolted on a game is designed for a mouse and keyboard.

I will admit my weakness is my system- its pretty old/slow:
i5-2500K@ 4.3GHz
AMD 7850@1100 1GB
16GB 1333 RAM
128GB SSD for OS (and I have another for game installs)

Games don't really have to be "new" either as pretty much any PS3/360 game after 2009 I am oblivious to. As long as it feels like a console game I will be happy.

Most games at this point are controller first. I don't think I've noticed anything off using my xbox 360 controller to game. Any multiplatform game you should be good in.

Any game also released on consoles will fit your wants. Just leave auto-aim enabled on FPSes, and voila! With most, you plug the controller in and go; or, at worst, tell it you want to use the controller.

For some sit down fun, without much in the way of worrying over depth, immersion, or long-term goals (just get playing, already), my top list would be:
Borderlands
Borderlands 2 (yes, both have quests and leveling, but it's all just map markers to blow stuff up at, and the story as an excuse for some off-beat humor)
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams (platformer, with top notch aesthetics, and solid gameplay, but not too twitchy)

For your consoles, since you have them as an option, get Beyond Good and Evil HD.

Borderlands, Bioshock, Tomb Raider are the recent crop of games I've played on my Xbox 360 controller.

1080P is fine, and your card should be a bit faster than a Geforce GTX 750 Ti, for a modern comparison unit. 1GB is a bit limiting, but there are new Geforces and Radeons on the way, so you'll likely be better off waiting a few months, if you find detail levels to be a problem (if you increase texture detail, and get stutters, that's usually a good sign of needing more VRAM).

The games listed here so far will run great at 1080P, with your card. I played most of them at 1680x1050 on a GTX 460, which is close enough. Some can make use of more GPU or VRAM, but only for eye candy (Tomb Raider and Bioshock: Infinite, FI).

I don't know what you've played, but those are all mostly older games that should play well enough. I realize pretty much every single one was also available on consoles, but if you missed them on console, you'll love them on PC.

One final question on the subject:

As noted a lot of these games are older and I am finding new copies on Amazon/Ebay for less than the Steam price. Is there any downside to purchasing outside of Steam? Many of these for sale, especially on Ebay, seem to be nothing more than Steam codes.

A Steam game already activated on Steam might be iffy.

Also, Steam codes may region-locked, or used.

Many are legit, though, either as gifts, or included with other purchases. For example, I've gotten several games I don't have a need for from a Humble Bundle or Bundlestars purchase, and I'm sure people that buy major games around release time commonly end up with spare codes through such things as that. I've also ended up re-buying some games on Steam, but I don't get spare codes when it's from Steam's sales .

What would a Asus 270X DC2 be comparable to? Probably would like to know in 700 cards since the 800 cards seem to be problematic and more or less were made to make easy cash.
