I've seen younger people buy a fast car (IE:turbo anything) only to be shocked at
how much it's gonna cost to insure it..

K blah, my friend is lagging on selling his car for a few months until he gets a job and is able to afford a new car... so i dont know when that will be.

So new question, what would be a good car that i can afford for about 15 grand or under. Im just pulling a number and that might not be what i will be able to afford.

I was thinking something used in good condition like an Accord or a Civic, but its hard to find a Honda that hasnt been driven like crazy.. I saw a nice 2001 E320 for 14 grand but im afraid to get anything European for service costs.. Any other suggestions? I wouldnt mind finding something nice like an old Lexus or Acura for cheap =P

get a miata for 10 grand. you'll be cooler than just about every other kid at school and you won't end up driving on road trips.

no offense to the OP but he really doesn't seem to be too responsible...definitely not responsible enough to accept the dangers that come with a miata. he acts as if he owns this money. OP, do your parents a favor and save the money.

go back to your mom and see what she'd prefer to spend. unless your mom makes a couple hundred g's a year, i don't see getting you a $20k+ first car is something your family should consider.

just wondering, OP, how long have you been driving?

the dangers that come with a miata???😕

Yep, two dangers :

(1)- People who drive miatas often mistakenly drive them as if they were a sports car, instead of a 1xx HP mouse. (no offense to those who have modded 200-300+hp Miatas)

(2)- Other drivers can't see them in their land tanks.

I think people fail to realize that the OP's mom is getting him a new car not for the benefit of him, but for the peace of mind that it will bring to her knowing that it has a full warranty, better safety, and would be less likely to leave him stranded on the road somewhere. My sister recently got a new car even though she wanted a cheap used car for the reasons stated above.

Apparently you don't understand what a Sports car is, and an MX5 is most certainly a sports car.

what i meant by the dangers is with the large cars on the road today, a freeway accident would not be desirable in any way if you're in a miata.

Pakman, he could go with a Certified Used car with <40K miles on it. they're a lot cheaper compared to when they were new

If i had the money, i'd buy a 10-15k used Subaru Impreza (non-WRX because of fuel consumption and insurance, though a WRX would be awsome 🙂 ) or Legacy with out too many miles on it. The Subaru's are reliable and very safe, and they have plenty of punch when you want it but not enough to get into too much trouble. I would love to own an American car over an import but I would take a Subaru in a second 😉

my $.02

Are you fvcking kidding me? Miata is the true sports car. It's a chill back and cruise around the mountain pass car. You don't want gobs of power on a car like that. It'll be a chore to control. This is a lightweight, fast, and nimble small sports car. And if anything, having less power is safe. Load a RWD up with power, especially with a limited slip differential, you'll be spinning out left and right. The miata is fast enough to have fun, but you don't have to really be careful to not spin out. That's safe. You're just fvcking ignorant.
