Any suggestions for the best car under $15000?

I am looking for some sort of coupe, but a nice sedan isn't out of the question. Something sporty with a nice interior is something I'm looking for.

A used Acura RSX, new (baseline) Honda Civic, new Mazda3, and new Mitsubishi Lancer have all caught my eye... any suggestions?

If I were just starting out again, I'd probably get another Mazda. And I'm sure the Mazda3s are nicer than my 2000 Protege.

Mazda3 for cost-effective fun, RSX for interior niceness. I'm driving a Mazda Protege5 and love it. The handling and the way you can throw it around corners is awesome.

First car? $15k? That's a nice budget, I'd just grab something lower though... take it easy on insurance and minimize losses incase you hit it or something. I'd just look around for a basic car closer to $5k or something, maybe a used Hyundai? Civic? Corolla? Sentra?

Scion tC and Mitsubishi Eclipse may be worth considering.

It also depends on how old/used you are willing to go. Of course as far as sedans go there's always Civic, Accord (also coupe version), Altima, Camry, Corolla, etc.
The Mazda6 has always seemed interesting to me, not as bland as the rest. Supposedly a little more "sporty" too. I don't have much first hand experience, just throwing some ideas out there.

i really like the infiniti G20. great interior, and reasonably fast... looks pretty sleek too.

Thanks for all the responses guys; the Mazda3 seems like a really great deal.

I really like the RSX though; any further comments on it?

When I was in the market for a car, I drove an accord, mazda3 and rsx.

Overall, I thought the rsx was the best looking car and pretty fun to drive.

Edit: Oh yeah, I ended up getting the rsx. I absolutely love my car :)

Besides the fact they're discontinued?...
I wouldn't know :).

..the Nissan's are a few thou.dollars less and have better engines and drivetrains then the toyotas. The toy's look a little better interior wise but I'd rather spend my money on improved engine/drivetrain.

$15, 000 on your first car? Jeez, unless you're really into cars, get a used econobox and spend the money on something more important. My definition of a good car is anything that gets you where you need to go under its own power.

I could have bought 30 of my first cars for that kind money ('68 Chrysler 300).
