is performing worse then the AMD Athlon 64 3400+? Can someone explain this to me....

I was under the... understanding, that it was suppose to be a superior card?... but maybe i'm taking the wrong appoach

It has a 128bit memory controller instead of the current A64's 64bit memory controller (read: dual channel) but with only one stick of ram, it won't be any better.
Having a different board and/or chipset HDD etc could make the difference in those benchmarks aswell as different cache sizes etc. We just don't have enough information about the test beds which makes this "benchmark" completely useless.

The chip is pretty much the same as the current 3400+ because it is in single channel mode. so Yeah its the same. It needs to be in dual channel mode meaning twice the memory bandwidth for it to gain any performance, and it still might not gain much.

I imagin that the new chip will cost a pretty penny more then the 64 bit cards, and that the old socket will eventually be outdated. But, what exactly does that mean? I mean, if i was to buy the 3400+ 64 bit card and the rest of the hardware of equal quality (or w/e you want to call it) and i went to upgrade my... video card in a year... does that mean that the new Video cards wouldn't be compatable with my "old" CPU, or the same with ram, or any other componants that i would have to eventually upgrade?

Socket 754 will be releguated to the value line that don't need the extra pins for the 128 bit memory controller.
AMD has already introduced an Athlon 64 with the 64 bit extensions disabled and called it an AThlon XP for notebooks.
They plan to do the same on the desktop.
754 will not disapear immediately but will be used for single channel A64's and "Athlon XPs" which are just A64s with the 64bit disabled.
