So those are the two specific parts I'm spending too much on? I picked them based on their benchmarks in Maya and Photoshop--did I totally miss something?
 
The motherboard won't make a hill of beans difference in Photoshop (or any other application). The i7 3770K is only marginally faster than the 1230V2 (200Mhz), so they aren't worth the money.

Also, the PSU is too expensive for what it is and what your needs are, look at the types of PSU that Sleepingforest and I put into our builds. Actually, in general you should just do a part by part comparison and take out anything where you're spending more money that we did.

The absolute #1 most important thing is for your to fit the U2410 into the build. Start out by setting aside $500 for that. Then build a $1000 machine.
 
Looks like Dell is launching the 2410 replacement ( 2413) as we post ..looks promising, and maybe 2410s will be nicely discounted ...
