Hi guys,

I'm back again.

A while ago, I got in on the Intel promo (Intel mobo, 3.4Ghz chip and XP Pro).

Then the ether started to wear off after reading about some of the "Prescott issues" and I

started to get buyers remorse.

I almost wimped out. I started to log onto Dell, but then I caught myself.

I told myself "Dymo you're just nervous about that Prescott... AND it's your first build".

Well , I reread the guides here and decided that since I've already got the main parts, I

might as well go for it...hopefully with your help I can pull it off.

This is for a home office computer that will have dual 19" monitors to spread out M$

Office apps-Excel, Access or ACT! and lots of open connections to the net.

I use some proprietary insurance software for quoting and maybe a little photo editing or

downloading some video from the camcorder.

I won't be overclocking and it won't be used for games. At least not yet.

Keeping my insurance client database stable and secure is important. I'd like to keep the

system for about 2 years before upgrading so I'm open to suggestions.

Here's what I have so far

Intel mobo D915PBL
Intel P4 550 3.4 GHZ
Corsair Valueselect 2x512 DDR2 PC2-4200
Seasonic S-12 430 Watt
Seagate 160 GB SATA
Mitsumi 404M floppy/card reader
NEC 3520A DVD
XP Pro
Dell 1905

basic modem?

I'm thinking of the X800XL. I want dual DVI. I'd like to play some DVD's, unsure on games...last on my priority list.

(1) Is this card overkill?

(2) Since I won't be overclocking, is there any reason not to go with the stock HS?

(3) Thinking about this case- AntecSLK3000B

Thanks for your imput!

Your parts list look fine.. I'm not sure about the RAM though, if a 915 board uses DDR ram or DDR2.

With the Seasonic helping to vent your system and the 120mm rear exhaust fan in the SLK3000, your PresHott, er, Prescott will still run toasty, but it should work OK. :D

Go for it, and good luck.

that motherboard uses DDR2. i got in on that deal too, it's part of the computer i'm using right now.

the video is an overkill for the things you mentioned if you dont want to game. if you just want to have dual dvi with decent performance, i believe the BFG 6600GT has dual dvi as well...

edit: i'm using the stock HSF, and it seems to be ok... I don't overclock either, and I figured this way I don't have any chances of voiding the intel warranty (i'm nt sure what their policy is on this type of thing)

If you want it to be quieter, get a Zalman, or XP90/120 HSF setup. It will lower your temps a little but be much quieter.

Yaya. Also, the board uses DDR2. It's an adequate build, though I'd opt for AMD for stability over time unless you want your system to sound like a tornado.
