I am always not proud of refurbished products. Send the few dollars extra to get brand new ones

What are you doing with your system anyway? It's no good asking for opinions without mentioning your usage pattern

It will be used for some light gaming and for a little bit of video and photo editting and DVD burning. Other than that it will just be word processing and internet.

EDIT: Price is probably the biggest factor, over reliability/ performance. I can't go over 1000 bucks and the lower it can go the better.

I have never heard of Kingmax. And since this is your first build, get a retail motherboard. It comes with all of the cables, etc. With a refurb, you are likely to get nothing more than the board itself. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't get OEM on anything, save for a floppy or something.

And PLEASE don't skimp on a power supply. 480w is minimum for this board. Get a quality PSU from OCZ, Antec, Enermax, Seasonic, etc.

If I were you, I would be more concentrating on grabbing the right components for a successful build, rather than OCing. Don't put the cart before the horse.

Your setup will be more than adequate for your uses. You can even drop 3500+ for 3200+ to save some bucks
OCZ's VX RAM is still the champion for overclocking
However since it's your first time building I can't suggest you the OCZ Value VX because the additional procedures to carry out before being able to fully utilise the performance

You might look for Crucial, Kingston RAM instead

What do you think of those two for RAM?
I guess I could go down to a 3200 because it is $54 cheaper. I am kind of lost when it comes to choosing a motherboard and PSU. I see that the retail DFI Lanparty is 50 bucks more. I think it would be a good Idea to get all the cables and everything since this is my first build but is it worth 50 bucks? Maybe you can recomend a mother board for about 100 bucks that will still let me oc a little.

Just wanted to make sure you're aware that more than likely, your refurbished mobo will not come with I/O shield, cables and the like.

I'd hate to have you all hyped to assemble and not have something you needed.

I would say definitely go with the 6600GT video card.

Also you say in your list that you're getting XP Pro for $78--your link is to XP Home. There's no way you're getting XP Pro for under $100.

Yeah I guess I meant to put home. I don't really care wether I have home or pro.
But do you think it is worth paying 17 bucks extra for a retail 6600gt or would the refurb be ok?

Get the retail. Plus, that particular 6600GT is great.

BTW, it feels good to be in a civilized discussion, unlike ATOT.

I disagree on the harddrive. I haven't heard a lot of good things about Hitachi You're safer with Seagate or Western Digital.
