First build:

MB gigabyte 78LMT-s2p
PSU Cool Master GLite Power 460W
CPU Phenom II x4 830
TR2-R1
MicroCenter RAM
All from Microcenter

Reusing a case - don't know model number

When I turn on PSU nothing happens - I guess this is normal?
I attached cooler to CPU and CPU to MB
Then attached PSU to MB
Nothing

I attached board to case and on switch to MB.
Now with PSU switched on, when I push case on button, both the PSU and cooler fans run, but no beeps.
Pushing button again does not turn anything off. Reset button does nothing. I can turn off from PSU.

I attached my old monitor and keyboard. Monitor shows nothing.

Is it time to return the MB? How do I know whether it came bad or I did something wrong? Nothing seemed very complicated.

I attached the HDD and DVD. I believe that hte HDD was spinning and DVD opened and closed.

Thanks for any advice.

No beeps. I would try single ram module first, then if that doesn't work I would then try reseating the mainboard check for and eliminate any potential grounding issue.

You should only have to use the switch on the PSU if you are shutting it off for transport or if your system won't shut down because of the front switch not working.

Also make sure the fan on the cpu cooler is plugged into the "CPU FAN" header

Thanks.

I am work now but I am comfortable that I got the CPU fan plugged in right. It was easy to find/follow cable and MB diagram was clear.

On the 4-pin connector (12v?) My PSU has two that appear to be identical. (2 each yellow and black wires if I recall) I connected that and swithced/reseated it when nothing happened.

There is another 4pin with 4 colors of wire (I think) that is harnessed with the 20 pin (main power?) that I plugged in with that.

I will re-check and reseat everything when I get home. If still nothing is it likely a bad MB or more likely operator error killing the MB? If I shorted it or whatever is the CPU still likely to be good?

Ive seen some gigabyte boards that are picky about which RAM slots are used first. Check your manual and see that you have placed them in the correct order, its not always the way you would assume it would go.

I swapped the motherboard. Still nothing. New CPU. Nothing. I hooked up a monitor in case the speaker is bad. Nothing there either. Is there any reason to suspect a brand new psu? Thanks for your replies.

The board is nicely marked for first and second memory sticks but I tried posting in all combos of slots/sticks and without any. I am goingto try a new power supply.
