I just got a couple of questions, I would appreciate any help. First, I have a modular sata power cable with multiple connections (photo below) I need to know if I'm able to connect both the hard drive and the optical drive with the same cable.

Second, I ran the 8pin power cable and the case fan cable through a small slit in between the motherboard and motherboard cut out(pictures below) I just need to know if it is safe, I did have to flatten out the 8 pin power cable so that it would fit but it is not pinching the cable or warping the motherboard. there is still room to slide the cable side to side.

Same cable with multi taps will work fine for both drives. Cable routing should be fine if not pinched too tight.

As lakedude said, the SATA power cable will power both drives just fine. As for the cable routing, as long as it doesn't cause a short it's fine, and I don't believe the braided cable sleeve is electrically conductive so you should be fine on that front too.

Thanks a lot, I was just waiting for two go aheads and as soon as I did I immediately disconnected my monitor from my old computer and connected it to the new build and fired it up. Everything worked great, I just need an os which should be in the mail tomorrow. Thanks again guys.

If you want to try your system out before your software comes you can download a free operating system by going to distro watch and picking one.

I suggest Puppy Linux or FatDog. Both are very small and easy to download and burn with an ISO burning program like Active ISO.

You load NOTHING to your hard drive, don't even plug it in. Run the "live" CD/DVD and it will load completely into ram and run your system from there. It is amazing how much stuff is included in such a tiny package.

Here is a link to the FatDog iso:
