yes it's switched on heh

but I think I have figured out that the antec neopower power supply I got is at fault because I connected it to a working pc and it wouldn't start that pc either. So I guess I'll have to exchange it *sigh*

But I do want to thank everything that gave their advice, answers and support, I do really appreciate it, thanks.

That sucks :(

I read through the newegg reviews for your powersupply in case there were any hints of what was wrong and the only negative comment was

"this ps did not like my IC7-G. i build a new gaming rig from scratch, only carrying over the monitor and Visiontek x800 pro. everything clicked until i booted up for the first time... there was power to the mobo and the case fans were spinning like crazy, but no cmos for me :(

i breadbox'd the machine and started all over. no dice. i switched out the CPU, VGA, memory, cleared the CMOS many times, pulled the mobo out of the case to make sure it wasn't shorting out, and even exchanged the mobo. i hit up the ABIT boards and no one could offer any other explanations.

the "neopower" was last man standing. i pulled the ps from another machine and sure enough, i was finally looking at the ABIT cmos setup menu. d'oh.

i liked this ps otherwise, it looks slick and makes NO noise, but it needs a voltage switch. the "universal input" did not work for my set up. i don't care what Antec says, it needs a switch. (besides, if you have multiple hd drives, optical drives, floppy, VGA, other cards, etc. you'll be using all of the cables and don't need to spend the extra $$$ for this ps. i went with the Antec 550 watt truepower and love it.)"

they didn't really have a solution for this :(

I've never used a powersupply with removable cabling. Did you read all the directions and warnings for it etc.? (I'm not trying to say you're doing something wrong, just that it's really annoying to have to RMA something and if it's something you have to do to the powersupply that nobody would think of unless they read it, it's worth a look)

It sounds to me like this is real simple.. Faulty mobo!.. I've had a similar experience in the past where I tried pretty much eeeeeverything. I DID get fans spinning but no POST beep or error msg... I've had 3 new mobo's delivered that were faulty from the start - 2 that were FUBAR'ed like yours, and 1 that had a faulty AGP slot (all ASUS actually), so I'm sure it's not too uncommon..

On my first build (see my sig) my first video card was DOA. I was so disappointed when I first turned on my system and the computer would POST but I just saw garbage on my monitor. Sh1t. Oh well. I went to one of the local computer shops here and they tested the video card and it was shot. I eventually got the card RMA'd and within a few days and in the meantime I bought a cheap video card just to finish the build.

Good luck.

My guess its your psu. I had a problem with a psu frying my mobo. It took me 3 burned mobo to figure that out, however the fans did start to turn. I would suggest to try another psu.

Why is everyone still guessing what it is when he said he tried the psu on a different system and it didn't work there either?

I don't think we can help anymore until he gets a new powersupply to work with. (or if someone has the same neopower powersupply he has and knows what the problem might be)

The PSU supposedly has a Universal Input which the manual says lets you connect to any standard power circuit without having to set a voltage switch. And so the PSU doesn't have a voltage switch on it.

But if anyone here has used this particular PSU before (Antec Neopower 480watt) please let me know.
