First build...major problem :(

Motherboard: Intel DP965LT
Processor: Intel E6400
Powersupply: XCLIO GOODPOWER 500W

I thought I was all ready to go. I pushed my power button...and nothing happened. I've since removed every component from the motherboard except the CPU. Only the 24-pin motherboard, 4-pin processor, heatsink/fan, and the power switch cords are plugged in. Still nothing happens. The light on the PSU is on, as well as the LED on the motherboard. When I first flip the PSU switch I hear a little dink sound and see the fans make a short revolution. I've tried removing the CMOS battery and letting it sit for a minute. Since this is my first build I really have no idea where to go from here 🙁. If anyone could give me some ideas to try it would really help me out, and there might be some e-cookies involved.

I would assemble the parts on a bench, outside the case for testing, to eliminate the possibility of shorts.

You want just the mainboard, cpu/hsf, video card, and one stick of RAM installed. Plug in the PSU, KB, and mouse, and short the power button pins with a screwdriver. If you still have the same problem, reseat the cpu, video card, and RAM. If you still have the same problem, it's time to start swapping out components until you isolate the bad one.

Thanks for the reply. Taking the motherboard out didn't work 🙁. I'm a little afraid to reseat the PSU (thermal grease and all), plus it was a pain to get that heatsink in all the way. I'm going to get batteries tomorrow for my voltmeter to test out the PSU. I haven't upgraded in 5 years, so I literally have no useful components to try and swap out. This isn't going to be fun 🙁.

LOL, had same problem the other day. I forgot to plug int he 4 pin connector on the mobo. I felt like an idiot.

Tried a friend's power supply and my system booted fine. Tried my power supply in his system and got no result. Hurray 🙁. I'm filling out an RMA now.

One question: The new system seems a little twitchy. I'd have to hold down the power button for a bit, otherwise the fans would spin up to full and give out. Also, when flipping the switch on the PSU, the fans would spin up, spin down, spin up, then spin down. It's kind of creepy and I just want to make sure there's nothing wrong with the motherboard as well.
