Alright I've slapped all my parts into a new build and zilch happens when I hit the power button on the case. I was hoping the switch itself was bum but when I put a screwdriver on the POWER SW pins there still isn't any movement (no lights or fans.. nothing). For some reason I plugged things into the case at one point with the PSU cable connected and set to | and the num caps scroll lights cycle when I plug the keyboard in. That's the only glimpse I've gotten.

Before I tear it completely down is there anything I can try? (I have zero spare parts) I'm 99.8% positive I got the 24 pin and the 12v connected properly to the board.. HALP!

You used standoffs in all the right places right? No extra standoffs anywhere?

First, I would triple-check to make sure that every single connector is securely in the right place. If so, then I would pull the motherboard out of the case and rest it on a non-conductive surface like the box it came in. Connect just the essentials (CPU, CPU fan, RAM, video card, PSU, case switches) and try powering on again. If you get a POST, then all of those pieces are probably good.

If that works, then I would carefully check to make sure there's nowhere in the case that the motherboard could be shorting out. Extra standoffs, loose screws that fell behind the motherboard, anything like that could do it.
 
Also make sure the Power Sw is plugged onto the mobo correctly and the voltage on the PS is correctly set.

Reluctantly I bought a power supply tester and the Corsair seems to be good. All the cool little lights came on and the fan actually spun up heh. I realize this doesn't necessarily mean its working correctly but I'm going to assume that to be the case for now.

I've ripped everything out and am reseating everything- the standoffs were and are correctly placed. The board seems to have some optional or extra places for another one or two but there aren't holes in the case for 'em if I wanted to use it. I've placed the CPU and cooler back on the board, 12v and 24 pin mobo connectors are in. What else is the minimum I should put in the case to see if it gets power? Thinkin I'll leave everything out that I can get away with to save time and hassle as well as keeping it simple. The power switch tests OK with my trusty ancient analog multimeter. Thinking of bugging The Egg for a motherboard replacement if this doesn't work.?
 
Alright I think I've narrowed it down to the case. I took the board out and connected just the CPU fan and it fired up. After adding things in one at a time I now have the motherboard + CPU, vid card, ram.. all running just fine on the desk.

Why is the case shorting it? I'm only using 6 standoffs (they're the brass type) and they're where they need to be. No spare screws or anything were under the board.. is the I/O shield fouling it somehow? How do I get this thing grounded so I can stop having to use this P2 333? 🙁 🙂
 
You took out the I/O shield that came with the case and popped in the one designed for your motherboard, right?
