i've been tweaking and messing with computers for years but this is my first complete build i've been away for a long while
my current pc is outdated im running a 1.3ghz p4 with 128ram i had a better laptop but i gave it away to my brother because he was moving to california
im building this mainly for gaming

thermaltake black armor case
asus a8n32 sli
amd athlon64 4000+ san diego core
nec 16x dvdr ......
1 xfx 7800gt plan to add another next year
old unused maxtor 120gb hd plan to add another drive later

so my questions are what would be a good choice for a power supply and memory
im looking into corsair 1gb which would be most compatiable and is there anything wrong with my setup or better choices ? thanks

PSU: seasonic or fortron. depending on what wattage you want, i'd still recommend a >500watt one.
memory: OCZ or Patriot dual channel 2gb kit DDR400

some concerns:
1) Maxtor HDDs are horrible, if you can afford it, get a Samsung or Seagate
2) what's with every new builder and thermaltake? You'll realize this down the road, but thermaltake is mainly PR and looks. functionality and quailty are a far second

what are the common problems with them ? i liked it because of
its enormous space and design

Get a Opteron 148 and save money. I got mine for $235 at Newegg just oredered today. Also yea I'd say ditch the Thermaltake my friend has one and the power button is brocken, door won't stay on and it gets VERY VERY VERY Dusty.

do the opterons do well under gaming ?

The opteron will performe much better in games because it can overclock well. It is the same Archetecture as the A64 just using a different material. Almost everyone at these forums prefer a Opteron over a 3000+ class CPU's.

Also yes this is a much better case and is cheaper. The only downside for you is it's grey. This deffinatly should not change your opinion though.
