Well, I bit the bullet and switched to a bagger/touring bike. I've ridden for 11 years on and off, and this is my first tourer.

Went with the 08 Road Glide in Cherry Red Sunglo.

Shot from other side

I like the bike.....alot. I'm 6'5" and I added the tallboy seat that puts me back 2". I moved the floorboards forward ~ 1", and added some jumbo highway pegs down low on the crash bar. They essentially increase the size of the floorboards for me. Also added a 3" taller windshield. For 2-up riding this thing is great. The frame mounted fairing keeps me from fighting the wind. I added a backrest for her, and the rest is just some misc chrome pieces. I want to replace the exhaust asap.

Any other Bike guys/girls got pics? :)

I've got a 2000 XT-225 that I put a new rim on the back to run street tires on, basically a motard conversion. Also have an 03 ZX-6RR for daily driving. Had an 02 GSX-R 1000 but I couldn't justify keeping three bikes + a car, so I sold it since I enjoy the 6RR more and it's a fair bit easier to handle on trackdays.

Pics of the 6RR,
6RR at Deal's Gap

Scrubbing tires before track day

Track day

Unfortunately no pics of the XT :( But it's a blast, minus the pretty horrible brakes and ultra soft suspension (it is originally 70% dirt bike!).

Nice bikes! I'd have a sport but they don't make one stretched enough for me.

Very nice.
I was thinking about getting an 08 Low Rider, but when I saw the "D" version of the V-Rod I was hooked. Such a pretty machine, and so much fun to ride.

The vrod's are definately cool. I'll have to snap a couple shots of hers. She's got an 05.

I'm more into the traditional cruisers myself. She wants to trade hers in on something like a Rocker or a Low Rider. We'll see what happens :)

The 08 Low Rider is a very pretty machine, if there hadn't been a black and chrome D sitting next to it I'd be riding one today.

Nice Harley. I'm not a big fan of the fairing and windshields on the front of a Harley but they probably make long rides a ton more confortable. What did it run you and did you custom order or did you buy it off the show room floor that way?

You will find a Road Glide is one of Harley's unpublished secrets...
That frame mounted fairing makes SUCH a Huge difference... Wait till you are tooling down the road and a Semi blows by you.... Having the fairing NOT attached to the handle bars...
Priceless.....

I have had mine to Sturgis (07) and Daytona (08) and racked up HUGE miles in both places... My dealer friend showed me a picture of a dealer class he went to last year...
Now they can show up with ANY bike they want.....

70% Road Glides in the parking lot............ I added the bottom fairings (Just like on the Ultra Classic) and the trunk (my lady LOVES to shop) and I couldnt be happier..

I MAY take of the lower fairings for the summer... I got stuck in traffic the other day...
WOOOOZA...... FUEGO LOL.....

Dude,

lotsa luck and keep the rubber side down...

**** One FINAL thought.. As cool as it looks do NOT buy the shortie windshield (It does look cool) I am 6'3" and all if does is direct the air SQUARELY into your face...

Thanks! I bought it off the floor. I wanted to look at a black pearl one, but couldn't find it. I think I like the candy sunglo better. The flecked paints definately are alot better, they show less wear and tear. And this bike is the most comfortable one i've ridden so far. :)

I hear ya sqawkin' big chicken! :p

NICE, thanks for the tips. I'm glad you like yours, and it's good to hear from another tall guy. I actually bought the taller windshield when I picked up the bike. I do like how the shortie looks, makes the bike streamlined, but I'll keep what you said in mind. My problem until this one has been that I'm not only long legged, but I'm tall torsoed too. So most fairings haven't worked for me, but I can already tell the frame mounted fairing on this baby is SWEET.

I've got the '08 catalog and i've been eyeing some more parts, namely those lower fairings and the trunk. Do you have the rear speakers mounted to that thing? My GF is already eyeing those :)

Nope... Mi lady could car LESS about the tunes.... So no rear speakers.....
SO I may upgrade the front set for me... :music::beer:

One word about the tunes & Pipes... I threw a set of V&H true duals on it...... Not as loud as my fatty (Ahem... Perhpas because of no Baffle Maint?)
But I have to tell you....

ALWAYS loved loud pipes... On my Hondas (back in the day as my kids say) I had Kerkers and Hookers.... Got a set of short shorts on my fatty... Ummm no, no officer no enhancements...
But, if I HAD I to do it over again on the Glide.... I would think about it.. You really drown out a LOT of the music with custom pipes... On my Sturgis trip... Tooling through Wyoming 75 MPH and more... You could not hear the music until the volume was 7/8's turned up... STOCK Sound SYSTEM......... 2 speakers......
Dude, I love loud bikes...Not obnoxiuos loud but loud....
But on my bagger.... I will admit second thoughts.....

I live on Long Island NY and ride probably 46 weeks a year... SO those LOWERS REALLY kick butt....
I am still considering taking them off for the summer.... Spring and Fall AWESOME...
Winter... Added at least 3 weeks of riding for me.....

YES, that 6 inch windshield DOES look sweet I makes the whole bike look more streamlined...

Gotta tell ya... I LOVE where you put your cruise pegs... IF my lowers come off, I MAY try that... Who suggested that? Interesting placement....

Mine loves to sing while we're cruisin'. That's why I asked about the rear speakers. I think she'd go for the trunk just so there's a place to mount em! Of course the trunk would be for her too, all I need is one of the side bags. I would love to upgrade the set too, even with the stock pipes, I don't like how far I have to turn em up to hear em.

Which brings me to pipes. I'm torn man. I'm used to LOUD. My previous bike had some Rush mufflers on and it was loud. And they sounded good too, not just jaw-rattlin' loud. But with this bike, I dont know. I figure I'm going to keep the long shotgun look for sure, so it dumps alot of the sound behind the bike. I want it to sound like a Harley but not be as loud as my old bike. Not sure what to do here.

I'm in Houston, so I don't get to ride quite as much as you do, but I get on it every chance I get. I work in the Galleria, so riding it to the office is a gauntlet. I try to ride it on Fridays to work, but you're taking a chance doing that down here near the gulf coast. It could look great outside in the morning, and rain 3 times during the day (and I mean a REAL rain, not a wimpy mist) then be sunny again late afternoon.

The pegs...to be honest, I had picked up a set of highway pegs with the long extensions on them. After messing with them on the bike with a buddy for an hour, I couldn't get them set where I needed them, at least not in the conventional positions you typically see them. They'd be way stretched out, even for my long legs. So on a whim, I slammed them down where they are in the pic, with the jumbo pegs sticking forward like you see, and I love it. I can move my feet way out on them, and it makes it feel like the floor boards are stretched way out since the pegs are long-ways and jumbo size. Try it :)

Post some pics of yours when you get the chance.

Later

Be careful what pipes you put on your bike. A lot of places are starting to enforce the EPA standard of 80db. Here in CA there is talk of arming the Highway patrol with meters, and going after bikes in a big way. The day's of roaring pipes on Harley's are coming to an end.

Damn that's not happy news. With all the crap to pick on, this seems kind of silly. Thanks for the info anyway.

It does seem over the top, but Harley's are just plain to loud when you pull the baffles. I have two neighbors that run straight pipes, when they come home late it wakes up the entire neighborhood. I'm looking forward to them getting their wings clipped.

On the other hand, my D is almost too quiet. I'd love to mod the stock pipes (very simple to do on the V-Rods) but I don't want to annoy my neighbors, and I don't want a ticket for excessive noise.

Hmm, I am 6' 5" and I am riding a SV650 (a girls bike, by most opinions). I should probably stop grinning like a fool and leaning through the corners, grow up and get a touring bike.
Maybe next year.

Very nice bike though, glad you are enjoying it.

Let me put on a quick Disclaimer.... My mods on my fatty... are minimal....
I still run baffles... I just removed about half the packing.....
STRAIGHT PIPES DO SUCK... On Multiple levels.....

Really bad for your engine... you need BACK PRESSUERE......
And that loud.... I am NOT looking to get hated by cagers or neighbors....
Just wanna enjoy my ride....

I do AGREE, locals ARE breaking on it... BUT it should be with some judgement...

I do MANY rides... MANY... Some we do for 09/11/01 and we go through NYC...
Tall buildings... Crowded Streets.....
There is no NEED to crack your pipes at EVERY DAMN LIGHT...
Yeah, it sounds cool... And I do it MAYBE once a ride for a 3 second burst...
And grin.......
But EVERY LIGHT? No.......

Daytona streets are pretty small... And the locals asked bikers NOT to be obnoxious...
Some guys were... Straight pipers... Cracking 3 times every 20 feet... I saw a few get pulled over...... Deserved....

That is where I have the RIGHT mix on the Fatty... cruising... NICELY loud. good deep throaty rumble....... But when I hit it..... You hear me....
SO I cruise through town without HITTING it... Respecting the populace....
So far, no issues... Hoping to go to a few Biker towns this weekend... And I have been warned... So we will see...

Lumathix, re this
would love to upgrade the set too, even with the stock pipes, I don't like how far I have to turn em up to hear em.

Warning With the un modded V&Hs you will HAVE to turn them up even more..... I THINK I BLEW MY LEFT SPEAKER LAST NIGHT...... Seriously think about the pipes... Not for the man... But for your tunes...
Let me tell you... It didnt suck driving through South Dakota with a lil Springsteen pumping... Just wish I coulda heard it better....

Hey, if I ever get that free 10 mins at home I will DEF post pics... I usually hit these forums on Coffee Break at work......

Glad to see all the feedback here... Well MOST of it.... :D

I'll definately have to rethink the pipes. I'm probably going to end up going with something that gives me more of that throaty rumble we're all looking for, just not the volume I had before. I definately do NOT like the stock sound. It's horrible.

I hear ya on cranking the throttle every few seconds. I'm guilty of twisting one every once in a while....going under an overpass comes to mind .....but I'm pretty conservative with it. :)

Sucks about the speaker. I've noticed a couple times, as the volume automatically goes up when you get up to speed, the speaker got a little distorted. I quickly dropped the volume, but it worried me a bit. That's why I'm thinking of making an upgrade the the premium set-up they offer. I think they want way too much money for it though.

Yeh, get those pics up when you can. I have a few more, and some of my old bike I believe. It was a Deluxe. Man let me tell you, that is NOT the bike for a tall guy. It was my first Harley, and I didnt have the right input on which bike would be good for me. I had the tallboy seat and had the floorboards moved forward, but I still felt I was sitting on top of the bike instead of inside it. Not cool. Pretty bike though :p

Yes the feedback is great!

We'll probably head out Saturday and get some riding in. I'm in the middle of remodeling the master bathroom, so that will take some of my time, but I don't know if I can stay inside if the weather is good.

Have a good 4th!

HAHAHAHAHA Overpass GUILTY 100% of the time... I forgot agbout that....

Dont go HARLEY upgrade... There are MANY premium 4 inch (I think that is the measurement ofthe fronts) out there... Made specifically for MCs.... I started (last night) looking at Marine Speakers... Figure they have to be waterproof too........

Just google Harley Speakers...... I just got 8 hits on that and 2 had Spaekers made for Glide....

Know anything about speakers? I know crap... It is like ART... I need to see (hear it)
If I like it... I buy it...

J&M and Hog Tunes come to mind......

EDIT... Holy cow (work is dead here) Forget J&M.. Hog Tunes gets NOTHING but glowing reviews............... Found 2 negative on J&M (Both BLEW fairly easy)

2 speaker systems... NO issues hearing tunes 65 plus.... There are 3 sets on E-bay (New) for my ride... (I must be STRONG... :( )
