First AMD build please recommend a stable mobo

Hi. I'm getting components ready for my first AMD build and am hoping I can get some recommendations on a ultra stable AMD motherboard.

I'm not going to be overclocking and I only do a little gaming. I do quite a bit of video/audio/photo editing. I'm looking for a very stable computer.

I'm most likely going with the Sonata II case.

Probably the X2 3800 processor.

From what I've been reading the nForce4 Ultra is the motherboard to go with, I'm just not sure which one?

Thanks for any tips on the build.

Tyans are stable, but why would you get one? "Regular" boards are stable as well, it's just that the tyan has a knack and a reputation for being stable servers, so if you're planning on leaving your machine on for extended periods of time with absolutely no crashing whatsoever, you don't have to worry.

Why go to such extremes for stability? 🙂. The EPoX is probably your best bet

Anyone else have an opinion?

Thanks guys.

Asus A8N-E.. I have one with a 3500 Venice.. works flawlessly. Not one issue since I put it together many months ago. Never a crash or lockup.. Runs 24/7.

I think most boards are probably pretty stable. Find a board with the features you want at a price you are willing to pay. Then just get a good PSU and make sure there are no RAM incompatibilities and you are set. Many many mobo questions/answers on this forum and in GH. should have no problem finding a great board.

Hi CraigRT

I see from your posting that you have A8N-E. I am thinking for this.

I want a stable motherboard. How is your experiance with this board?
I have following requirement, can you please let me know if you have experianced
any of these?

1). Stability, I don?t want any USB 2.0 freezing or any sort of reboots 🙁 sick of AN8-Ultra board.
2). Bit overclocking like 2500 CPU, 240 Mhz Memory.
3). I may want to play games a bit( mid range)

Right now I have Abit AN8-Ultra, that has same chipset as this (NF5-Ultra). I had USB 2.0 problem with Abit board. I was never able to transfer file of size more than 3 GB to or from the USB enclosure hard disk. The system used to freeze.

The system will work and also do file transferred properly, if I don't use any of the onboard USB connector to connect my card reader or case Front panel USB port.

Thanks
