Well I finally did it. After living with a 15" LCD for 3 years and numerous 17" CRTs before that I finally gave in and bought a Samsung 204b 20.1" LCD. I was completely blown away and I'm still in awe at this thing. Looking at it in the store doesn't do it justice. It's not till you sit down in front of it that your jaw really drops.

I'm really glad I paid the extra for a 20" vs 19". I have a 19" at work but I can't even explain how much better a 20" at 1600x1200 is vs a 19" at 1280x1024. You really have to experience it to understand it.

I passed up 19" LCDs to save up for a 20" and now I'm really glad. To anyone thinking about it the 20" is IMHO the perfect sweetspot and is worth the extra $100-150. I really didn't like the 20" widescreen, too small vertically for me and I don't like having to move my head side to side that much :)

I booted into Debian first where XFCE4looks drop dead gorgeous then started Ogle DVD player and enjoyed The Matrix for a bit. Then I fired up UT2004 and a few other games and never realized what I was missing the whole time. Unfriggin believable. Rebooted into Windows and was bummed to find out that Clear Type is not available under Win2k. It made such a huge difference at work with XP but I was still impressed.

Anyway, just had to say something because it's one of those computer moments that you just sit there and can't believe it finally happened :)

Yes, unless you want to go for widescreen, 20" viewable 4:3 aspect ratio is an awesome size display, both LCD and CRT.

If you don't mind? Can you tell me where you bought this monitor and how much you paid. Just looked at it on newegg and this looks like something I could use. I like the fact that it is native 1600x1200, BF2 has that resolution and is my favorite game for now. Thanks! The one at newegg is 495.00

I'd like to be able to get a 20" 1600 x 1200 LCD, but the pixel size is just too small for me. I'm using a 21" 1600 x 1200 Samsung LCD at work, and its very nice. I think the 4:3 ratio is a good compromise between widescreen and 5:4 LCDs. The pixel size on the 21.3" LCD is just big enough for me.

I've been eyeing this one for home use:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824001211

8-bit PVA panel, and larger 0.27 mm pixels. Too bad its significantly more expensve. Sucks having bad eyes...

Don't mind at all. I bought mine at Best Buy for $479. After taxes it was $529 total.

I just took back my 204b and got the 215tw, if you guys can afford it you might wanna consider it over the 204b I feel it is FAR superior to the 204b. It runs 549 and Best Buy and Frys.

I was pretty lucky with my 20" Dell. I bought it from my brother for 300 dollars. (He was low on cash and needed to pay rent) :D
