Well I finally did it. After living with a 15" LCD for 3 years and numerous 17" CRTs before that I finally gave in and bought a Samsung 204b 20.1" LCD. I was completely blown away and I'm still in awe at this thing. Looking at it in the store doesn't do it justice. It's not till you sit down in front of it that your jaw really drops.
I'm really glad I paid the extra for a 20" vs 19". I have a 19" at work but I can't even explain how much better a 20" at 1600x1200 is vs a 19" at 1280x1024. You really have to experience it to understand it.
I passed up 19" LCDs to save up for a 20" and now I'm really glad. To anyone thinking about it the 20" is IMHO the perfect sweetspot and is worth the extra $100-150. I really didn't like the 20" widescreen, too small vertically for me and I don't like having to move my head side to side that much
I booted into Debian first where XFCE4looks drop dead gorgeous then started Ogle DVD player and enjoyed The Matrix for a bit. Then I fired up UT2004 and a few other games and never realized what I was missing the whole time. Unfriggin believable. Rebooted into Windows and was bummed to find out that Clear Type is not available under Win2k. It made such a huge difference at work with XP but I was still impressed.
Anyway, just had to say something because it's one of those computer moments that you just sit there and can't believe it finally happened
